How far down should you suspend a crappie light when fishing off a dock? I'll be fishing in about 6 feet of water.

Just under the surface and fish below it. If no shad show up then call it a night

Give the shad an hour or sp to show up, and fish in the dark shadows around the lights perimeter. If no shad show, call it a night...like the man said....you should notice the plankton showing up after 15-20 minutes of turning the light on.
