I love tfo, but will never buy another bvk and if mine breaks again it's gone. That rod is not reliable, I've had it break multiple time for no reason. Google it a lot of people have the same stories. I've got a half dozen other tfo models that perform flawlessly day in and day out.

I'm another satisfied customer of the Cabela's Three Forks 7'6", 3-piece, 3 weight rod. I got mine from Cabela's Bargain Cave and paired it with a Cabela's Presitge Plus reel. Website says they now both come with a lifetime guarantee. I also have the same set up in an 8', 4-piece, 4 wt. I use the 4 wt a lot more than the 3 wt.

I have had let's see: Cabelas Three Forks, LSI, TFO Finesse, PRO, BVK, Redington CT, Echo Carbon, RDP, all in 2,3,4,5 or 7wts. I have loved them all. I always seem to gravitate back to the BVK. I have owned 3 3wts, a 4wt, 2 5wts, and a 7wt. People always talk about breaking the BVK for no apparent reason. I have only broke one for no apparent reason, the 7 wt on its first outing. By far my favorite is the 3wt BVK. I have all three o f mine threw hell. Both the 10' conversion and 8'. Large trout 18-24" in fast water when I has stationed in Co.they have never missed a beat. Down here in TX with my most recent 3wt BVK 20+" bass pulled out of the weeds and moss in a city park. Unless I'm targeting fish deeper than 10' it's my go to rod.

So is all the broken rods the larger weight or are there some 3 and 4wt in there too?

I'll throw in another vote for the 3Forks if youre looking to go really inexpensive. My only reservation is that it's 3pc. For midpriced I would look at the Redington CT 7.5ft. It's 4pc and seriously has the feel of a premium rod. Definitely one of my favorites. The 3 forks is a bit stronger of a rod than the ct, like 3.5 vs a true 3, which is sometimes better for warmwater. The 8.5ft ct 3wt is even more of a medium.

The bvk is more like a 4wt and I've read of so many breakages. But I really like the Finesse line of rods.

I have returned 2 Three Forks to Cabelas because the cap on the reel seat came off, so I cannot recommend that rod. I have an Echo Carbon XL 7'3" 2wt rod that I absolutely love ($140). My buddy has a TFO Finesse 2wt that he absolutely loves ($200) so I would lean in that direction. Both companies have lifetime warranties.

Ok maybe 2 reservations on the 3forks... I did have an issue with the end cap coming loose, but for 34 bucks, I was ok with slapping a little epoxy myself. Good to go and no issues since. I'm not sure if they fixed that issue. Actually on my 4wt 3forks I replaced the cork and grip because I like the rod that much. It's one of my favorites. And I'll put the usual disclaimer that I own multiple premium rods that I bought before there were so many good inexpensive options.

I actually like the rod itself for the price, but the day I had hiked pretty far down into Barton Creek and hadn't fished but for a few minutes when the cap came off, and I couldn't tighten the reel back on, was very frustrating. All I could do was hike back to the car and head home. Cabela's was very accommodating and replaced the rod no question, and then gave me store credit the second time it broke (which I put toward a new vise, which was nice). But I would rather just spend a little more for an Echo, TFO, or Redington and just avoid the headache altogether. My 2wt Echo Carbon XL is my favorite rod, and my 4wt TFO Pro II is my second favorite rod. Never have I had one issue with them.

I added the Cabelas Three Forks rod to my wish list so hopefully I'll get notified when they go on sale.

I actually kind of enjoy that weird little real seat! Cuts down on weight, and you never have to worry about the butt cap popping off, like as mentioned above.

I remember seeing the reel seat on the smaller CGRs and not liking it, but then reading that people generally don't have issues with it and it holds their reels just fine. I will probably end up getting one eventually since they are so cheap when on sale as well as almost universally loved.

my favorite all time 3 weight rod is a rod I built on the batson RX6 2 piece 7'9" 3 weight. It is a cheap blank but makes an awesome brim rod. The RX-7 is a higher modulus blank and is a mite stiffer than the RX 6 but everyone i've known that had the 7'9" 2 piece RX 6 just loved the rod.
I also have several fiberglass rods in the 3 weight but they don't do as well in the Texas wind as the RX 6 or the cabelas three fork and the wind almost always blows on Texas lakes. A 4 weight fiberglass is a better option when lake fishing in Texas-p-

I have not had any trouble at all with the Three Forks or CGR or the Stowaway 6 3 weight all have given good service. My favourite being the TFO 2 weight Professional.

I'm looking to pick one up in the near future and I've got plenty of a super glue and tape so I'll be prepared.

I really love using a 3 wt rod for panfish. Can cast all day long with no arm strain since the rod is so light. I have a Fenwick Aetos, which I got off ebay for around $100. The cheap ($12) Cahill reel is probably lighter than any aluminum reel, and balances great on that rod so I doubt I will ever replace it.
