Been fishin creeks and have seen a lot of snakes, thinking about buying a new hobie and was wondering if a bright red or orange color would make snakes hesitant to come try to get in with me. Been told that sharks and sea creatures are hesitant to bite red kayaks because they associate the color with poisonous fish. dumb question but hey maybe someone knows.

Get a blood red one to ward off sharks. Get one wrapped with a picture of a big floating log to ward off snakes.

whack em with the paddle. The only good snake is a dead one.

Here's a nice big cottonmouth in a tree in the Brazos.

Here's the best way to leave them. Chased this one under a roack and pulled him out with my fishing pole and chopped him with the paddle.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

No its not a dumb question. As for snakes don't worry about them. I've spent many years on the water in kayaks from mango colored to ones that look like logs and never had snake problems. I've even chased them on the water and they just swim for their lives. I heard stories about snakes getting in kayaks but I've never experienced it nor have any of my close friends. Anything can happen and it only makes since for snakes to climb on something in the water but I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know any odds but it's probably safer in the water on a kayak than walking the bank.

Came across this once while bank fishing. The snake actually got the fish turned head first and swallowed it while I was fishing there.

All the snakes pictured above are harmless water snakes. None of these are poisonous. And you call yourselves men of the outdoors? Pffft!

That's what he eats. Fish, not humans.

roflmao That picture is not zoomed in. I used to catch them as a kid by pinning them down with a stick and grab them behind the head and let them curl all over your arm. We cleaned and ate a water moccasin once. It tasted pretty bland and not like chicken by the way.

Eastern Diamondback taste great. Never heard of eating a Water Moccasin.

I haven't either but me and my best friend would go with his dad and cigar smoking grandmother fishing on the trinity all the time. They would leave us on the bank and go down river in and old flat bottom and come back filled with catfish. Once while doing this we caught us one and kept it to show his dad and grandmother. They said we should keep and eat it so we did. grill barf

I've always wanted to go to the sweetwater round up. I worked with a guy that went every year and he would bring some up to work in a bucket to show/scare people at work. It does give you some goosebumps to hear them things rattle.

The color of your kayak is not going to have an effect.

A snake is a snake is a snake and I don't like snakes, period, and I love being outdoors. If around gators I would say the same thing but especially crocodiles.
