Thanks Curtis and taking5kidsfishing for the replies. Curtis: I have caught several nice FAT Bluegill this past week but I released them. Pretty sure they were carrying eggs. It would not surprise me if we see a spawn at the end of February or very early March! Taking5kidsfishing: Will put you on my prayer list and hope you get back on the water and into the GREAT OUTDOORS! I have not fished the Guadalupe State Park in a while. The last time I fished there I caught nothing but small Bluegill and bass. As for rig I myself use an Shakespeare Ultralight Combo with a size six hook, and a size 5 shot with six pound test line. A carton of night crawlers is my bait. I thread about a quarter of the worm on my hook leavening the tip exposed. Cast where ever you think a fish might be. I usually work the bottom with a very slow retrieve. Tactics can change depending on the bite and water body!

Yes Sir I think there will be four spawns this year. The water temperature on Mcqueeney is still on the cool side. I think mod March will be the first spawn! Just my two cents.




Side Note: Crappie spawn right around the corner also!

Friends of mine have already seen sunfish on nest in some of the creeks. I think you will see four spawns this year also.

Hey Taking 5, I know there's a nice pond right outside the zoo. It's fairly close to the medical center in Houston. Can't remember what it's called, but it has some big bass and bluegills in there. It gets a lot of pressure, but it's worth it if you get one on from the big weeded section.

Side Note: The ones I have been catching the past couple of weeks are in GREAT shape!

Fished the east side. Crappie spawn is in full gear! Water is still muddy and fish are in water 2 to 3 feet deep! Also caught some Bluegill which had eggs in them. I do not think the Gills are in spawning yet. Just my opinion.

Thanks Curtis for the information. I have seen sunnies on nest while fishing creeks. I think the spawn is on in some places.
