Hey guys, I am thinking of going to Fork and doing some night fishing this Thurs... It's hard enough to navigate during the day but at night too, Do you have any tips for night navigation?
What equipment do you use? Do you just find a spot and stay there?
Also does anyone know a few spots that have underwater lights? I'd like to try to find a cluster and fish them for the night. I read a post a while back where someone had been installing lights at night at different places all over the lake but to try to run the lake at night looking for them doesn't sound too appetizing ha.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide, I'll return the favor.

For navigation at night on Fork.....hold a Q-beam down the side of the boat as you drive. When you get where you wanna fish, just hold it up pointing over the front to see stumps. As far as lights go, they are scattered all over.

Q beam to navigate through the boat lanes. If you aren't familiar with the lake then idle outside the boat lanes.
As far as underwater lights and you wanting someone to tell you where they are, good luck!
We all have got out there and found them ourselves. You should try as well.

You navigate it slowly. Even without a light, you'd be surprised how well your eyes adjust at night. I generally spend the night in one of the creeks. Try mustang or little mustang. They are easy enough to navigate and should have some lights on if you can find them. Launch where you want to fish and you never need to get above idle speed.
If you really want to fish the lights, look at hiring a night guide like Paul. He knows where they all are

They are all over the place really- pick ones with deeper water nearby. Maybe try with a guide first or just try a few spots. Driving around at night is dangerous especially if you are not experienced. You can hit a few choice lights several times but they need a little rest so make a milk run you can repeat.

Do not shine the Q-Beam in the direction of a boat coming the other direction in the boat lane, please... I like the suggestion of sticking with one of the bigger creeks, or fishing near the marinas at night. I haven't done it all night, just a few hours after dark, but I'm going to make a night trip out there one of these days!

Thanks for all the tips and now places for us to try. Getting a Q-beam now and we'll make sure not to shine it on other boaters. I like the idea of getting a guide. Will def post up if we do any good.
Thanks again

Fish the same areas you would durning the day. Lights can be hit or miss and some will turn them off due to damage incurred in the past to the dock or light itself. Also fish seem to get skittish after one or two are caught. I Fished three sets last weekend and not a bass on any of them. Use darker color baits. I like to find points or other structure I know they will move up and down to minimize trying to navigate stumps in the dark. I have always had good luck on big t rigged worms, jigs, and spinner or chatter baits.

Just launch in one of the protected coves don't even use your big motor and move quietly with troll motor along the bank and use dark lightly weighted craw ... Fish SLOW. You will find them shallow next 2 months at night if you are quiet.

Hey guys, just wanted to thank you for the tips, My dad and I had a blast! We fished from 7-3am...only caught 2 but they were good size, one was a 4lber the other was 5.7lbs One on a white swimbait and the other on a weightless lake fork minnow. I thought I had some awesome footage to show but unfortunately my memory card ran out of space...ugg, I was able to see the 5lber come up and take the bait, was so cool...but we saw some way bigger fish there...must have been 8-9lbers or more...was crazy seeing those huge shadows down there. Thank you guys so much and yes fishing night was not too bad..lot of light out there in the coves.
