Looking for someone that owns one to pick their brains. I know it's no speed demon and I don't need that anyway. Looking for an economical 4wd that will spend time towing my little 16' Alumacraft. Also plan on using it for work. If you own one, lemme know what you think.

Colorado is crazy expensive for a light-duty truck. I agree with redchevy that I'd give the ram ecodiesel a look.

To answer your question, I haven't seen any on the roads yet. I'm interested to see what people are paying and what kind of mpg they're getting.

Not trying to prod you either way. I own a ram ecodiesel and love it, however I heavily considered a Colorado with the diesel, I just felt that it didn't fit my use well. Our boat weighs 5k with no people or any other gear so I thought I would be pushing it and I'm 6' and my wife is 5-11 and we have a son and want another so a compact truck just didn't seem to fit, otherwise the Colorado/canyon looked very appealing.

Here are some fuel mileage numbers pulled from fuelly, its the average mpg reported over all tanks of all diesel colorados. Looks like a typical average is 26 mpg. Towing numbers were commonly in the low 20's (but I would assume that is not entire tanks of towing). If you decide to go with one keep us posted.

Thanks for the responses guys. Lemme tell ya why I was leaning towards the Colorado. First off, I need a 4wd truck. Secondly I put about 20~25k a year on a company provided vehicle and I'm thinking of switching over to a personal vehicle. My company will pay me about $500 a month plus mileage if I want to drive a personal car. Third, what ever I get will be in the family for a long time. I don't go looking for new vehicles every 3~4 years. Fourth, I figure since I plan on hanging onto the truck for more than 10 years, the fuel mileage will actually help offset the cost of owning a diesel. Fifth, I spend a lot of time in hospital parking lots and I'm thinking the smaller mid sized pickup will be easier to park than a full sized truck.

I currently own a 2wd 2002 Dodge Ram Q-cab that has less than 77k miles on it. Earlier this year the lack of 4wd almost derailed a very important fishing trip. Had it not been for a friend's 4wd, I never would have gotten my boat in the water.

Oh, and my current company vehicle is a 2016 Dodge Minivan.

My time frame for possibly pulling the trigger on new vehicle is late spring of next year. This is my attempt at having my company pay for a 4wd truck that will eventually be mine. So talk me out of it or into it guys, I appreciate the feedback.

Fuel mileage will be amazing in one. The chevy gets better than the ram ecodiesel and I manage a 27 mpg average commuting to work, got 29.4 last weekend on a trip to the ranch.

Only thing I think you wont like is the long term ownership part. The emissions systems can be problematic on new diesels. However I bought mine with the intent of long term ownership and if I have problems ill just delete it. Just something to consider. If they will give you $500/mo and mileage you will be making money!

Other than parking size, I don't think any of that reasoning wouldn't also apply to the Ram ED. Parking the Ram is cake with the backup camera. I'm shocked at spaces I can get into. It can be had in 4wd, it would be good as a long-term vehicle, and would be much more comfortable driving around than a mid-size. The Colorado is fine, but like I said, mid-size trucks right now are insanely overpriced. You get the capability of an SUV with more cost and less interior storage space. You get the price of a full size truck with about 50% of the capability.

I would actually prefer the leaf springs of the Colorado over the ram's coils. I believe the Colorado has a higher payload capacity than the ram And in the end the GM is smaller lighter and has two less cylinders to feed(better mpg's). I also prefer the simplicity of the inline motor. Additionally I have yet to hear anything about the 2.8 d-max having any out of the ordinary engine failures, which cant be said for the ram.

I love the ride of my Ram. Looking to put those bumpers on it for heavy loads as soon as I can. $100 is well worth it.

My comments are really more related to it being a light duty versus the full size. You're never going to get as much resale with a light duty as a full size. The market is just tiny in comparison, and most of that market wants a Tacoma.

I like duramax. Dad had one for years and it was bulletproof. I just don't see the use of a $25k-$30k light duty when you can have the full size with the same mpg and more capability for just a hair more.

I drive a 2016 Colorado w/ a 2.8L Duramax and it does great, I'm averaging almost 30 MPG!
