Should be getting better with the warm up. Has been fair on DD22 crankbaits in bright colors. Examples: Chartreuse-chrome and red w/ yellow sides. The plastic bite is very hard to feel, light, light. Went out for a couple of hours late yesterday and the wind off of the front made it difficult to fish. The crappie bite is picking up, up river.

Where is Curtis Norwood?
He was guiding on the lake a few years ago. Is he still around?

The crappie bite is picking up, up river. when deep cranking what kind of place do you try and look for I can never seem to make it happen on deed divers I'm the same way. It is obviously a technique that works on that Lake but I have zero confidence in it. Normally this time of year I can catch good spots on jerkbaits. For the Bud Light I caught dinks on jerkbaits. Caught one just under 18" on a jig early in the morning. The Friday afternoon before, I ran up the lake and first stop produced a 19" fish and a 16" fish shallow on a spinnerbait. I left immediately and started there Saturday morning. Caught the 1 fish on a jig and then nothing. Went back three different times as the day warmed up and never caught a fish. I marked fish suspended over deep water. I threw a deep diver for an hour or so in a few different spots but couldn't buy a bite. I slid over to the drop offs and fished texas rigs at same depths I marked fish and never got a bite on texas rigs. Only somewhat consistent bite I got on was jerkbaits along bluff walls, but they were all small fish. Maybe color selection is my problem too. With the clear water I pretty much only throw shad colored crankbaits. Never have tried throwing the brighter colors on the lake, unless I'm up the lake in stained water. I can only remember catching 1 fish on a crankbait on that lake. It was a 10" spot on a 10xd. I need to go out there with nothing but a box of crankbaits and force myself to stick with it.

The lake has changed since filling up. All of the patterns from the last 5 years that would catch fish are no longer working for me, especially cranks and spoons. I think I know what they want and Ill see on Saturday.

This winter didn't get too cold and the coldest I saw the water get was 47 degrees. I've seen it down to 42 before...I'm hoping a ton of shad survived and plenty of fat girls chasing them still.

Learn to have confidence in YOURSELF. Get good/great at all techniques and have confidence in yourself. Now me, I HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE IN CRANKING than anything else. BUT, I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN MYSELF TO FIGURE THE FISH OUT!!!!!!!!!! You know the saying, "LET THE FISH TELL YOU WHAT THEY WANT!" That is what I try to do and listen to them. Your GUT INSTINCT is often right on the money. MOF, I just finished an article about CONFIDENCE and I will post it soon. Just waiting on BASSMASTER to tell me yay or nay on it. The MORE YOU DO SOMETHING CORRECTLY (doesn't count if you are doing it incorrectly), the more confidence you build. HARD TO DO , but once you get there, you are a MUCH better fisherman. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.
