What length shaft and thrust would be best for a 18 ft pontoon .not the cheep one but the absolute best one the goodern, thanks

I just took delivery of a new 18' Bass Buggy today. I have been looking at things like troll motors and such for a few months now. Seems a smaller 24volt like 68# would be far superior to the 55lb that is pushed in the "fish" packages. I read the 55 is bare minimum and not much good in a little wind. I like the pontoon specific powerdrive v2 68#. They say that their "pontoon" motor is a 48" shaft. I cannot afford all the wizbang gps stuff so I will settle on the co-pilot option which is the remote you wear around your neck. It's about another $140.

I have a 20 foot pontoon boat, with a 24 volt, 60 inch shaft, motorguide XI5, Works great.

thats alot of shaft. not saying I care don't get me wrong, just saying.

Go big. Pontoons are like sails and the slightest little breeze will push you all across the lake. A 55# thrust just won't cut it.

24v, 80lb minimum, and 60" shaft. Go ahead and get the I-pilot with quick release mount, you won't regret it.

I saw a minnkota 80 terrova on here, used, 60"...look into something like that..
spotloc and remote is priceless, I have one that is a manual deploy and it's simple, and very strong.

I had the short shaft on a pontoon once and quickly upgraded to a 60 inch shaft. 70 lb minimum. 80 is better. I pilot is awesome. Will never go back after owning one.
