I looked on Jerry's Jigs site and he has some good looking jigs. For those of you that are die hard feather and hair jig guys for crappie. I fish Toledo Bend and would like to hear your favorite colors even if you fish other lakes.
I appreciate your interest in my jigs. Feel free to call me before placing an order: 817-673-seven595 (spelling the number keeps spam bots from bombarding my phone)...
For Toledo Bend this time of year, I'd start with Money Maker, Grease Bath, Cotton Candy, Yummy Yellow, Red N Yella, Old School, and/or Halloween. You could pick as few as 4 of those colors and have a good starting point.
Money Maker and Grease Bath can usually fish with any jig on any lake and are my two first jigs to fish for most lakes. Cotton Candy can do great on Toledo Bend during the right times of year, if the water is clear (speaking comparatively, in regards to year-round clarity). If the water is murky or you're catching a ton of rain, I'd switch gears and try Red N Yella or Cherry Tomato.... the reds seem to get a reaction on lakes like Toledo Bend when the water clarity/visibility lessens. The Yummy Yellow is being suggested because it's an often overlooked color that produces on most lakes but can be magical on the "right" lakes. As for Old School and Halloween, they're darker jigs and used as my last resort when other colors don't produce like usual. Lately, I've been fishing an Orange/Black/Orange jig that has been KILLER and will soon add it to my jig catalog, if things don't change.
All lakes will have their hot colors and any given day can stump any of us so I try to keep things simple when trying a "new" (to me) lake. Think in terms of bright, dark, natural, (etc) patterns and find what works best for you. Once you determine the type of color pattern the fish want, you can order more of that style. For instance, if you did best of Money Maker from your first order and not so good on dark colors, I'd order Surrender, Sure Shot, Halo Magic, and any other jig that was also a bright color scheme on my next order.
For convenience, here's a few of the jigs I mentioned:
Top Row: Red N Yella, Cherry Tomato, Money Maker, Cotton Candy
Bottom Row: Old School, Halo Magic, Surrender, Halloween
I believe you can catch a fish on any of my jigs on any lake but finding the best colors for your lake is the key. Keep it simple until you have an idea of what they like best and optimize it from there. Eventually, you'll come up with the most effective jigs for your lake in any given condition.
Also - I'm not able to check the forums daily this time of year so please don't hesitate to call should you have further questions..
