I'd love to know what the top finishers did to earn checks, because as a new full-time resident on CC (didn't fish in the tourney), I watched bass fisherman after bass fisherman cruise into my cove, almost like an assembly line, work the same docks with pretty much the same presentations -- and move out very quickly. My bet is none of them earned checks, but I could of course be wrong.

Point is, these guys seemed to:

1. move WAY too fast, and
2. throw the same "hot" baits -- mostly drop shot rigs and jigs.

The bass are here, I know, because I've seen and caught quite a few of them over the past few weeks. But it takes patience and different lures, presentations to get them to hit.

I remember watching a KVD video where he stayed in one cove for HOURS to get his tournament limit because he knew they were there.

Congratulations to my buddies Craig Dowis and Mike Vasquez on their 2nd place finish less than a pound from first place with 22.82 lbs. I have had the opportunity to fish with both guys many times and was glad to see them team up this year. Looks like they are off to a great start. Way to go guys!

Winners spent the entire day on the same clump of willows about 200 yards further in a cove than I was. I should've done the same and would've been in the money, instead got anxious and started bouncing around. Lesson learned.

It's strange to hear all the engine problems. I prefished the weekend before out there and same issue. Boat ran fantastic all morning then around, it wouldn't idle. It'll start, barely, then idle really rough, then die. Went home, changed plugs, and the gas hose from bulb to motor(thought ethanol could be breaking it down.) Replaced with ethanol resistant hose. Backed it in the lake, same issue. Needless to say, its @ Sevice Marine now...
Used my partners boat this weekend. Had 14.10, barely missed out on a check. We lost 2 that would have moved us up. We had two , 14-1/8th" dinks weighed in.

Congrats to the winners,
My son and I fished the same type of cover but obviously in a different area. First fish came on 3rd cast at 4.5#'s and I was excited that more should be there, after boating several shorts we moved to the same type of cover in the area, boated another 3#'r and three 15 inchers. had our 11.21# limit by 11:30. All keepers came on spinnerbaits and all shorts were on lizards. We circled back through the same areas a few times during the day and caught a few more shorts. This was my 11 years old sons first tournament so I stayed away from flipping docks.

My only lower unit job came on Cedar Creek. I was running in the middle of Caney Creek and as far as I know I hadn't hit anything, then or on any other trip. I heard a metallic clattering and asked my wife if she heard it. She asked, "I don't know, what does it sound like?" I said..."Money." Luckily we were right by the public ramp so I put it on the trailer.

I hope there not a gas station with some bad gas but it sounds like a few lower units went out. Not good at this time of year.

Battery died about 11:30 and had my partner back in the engine compartment moving stuff around to hook up the other battery. Caught 8 fish but only 2 keepers for 7.51lbs. Engine started making grinding noises and dying when I was trying to pull it on the trailer. What is it about this lake that has engines crapping out?
