I filed a homestead exemption on my home this year, as I bought it last July and now qualify for the exemption. Just got a "Request for Additional Information" notice in the mail. Guess what they wanted??

"Explain why your mailing address is different from the property address"

Don't lots of people get mail delivered to a PO Box, their office, a private mail drop, etc rather than to their home? Or is it really that unusual? My explanatory statement was two words: "MAILBOX THIEVES"

You probably want to give a little more detail than that.

I'm in the mortgage business. We see situations where the same property will have different addresses for County taxes, 911 dispatch (Patriot Act), USPS delivery and just common directions.

It probably meets one of the requirement to ask for further explanation if a person mailing address isn't their property address.

I am sure Mailbox thieves will probably work

The assumption is made that you live (and get mail) at the location you call a homestead, otherwise it doesn't qualify as a homestead.

we use a PO box for that very reason.

When I sent the application, I included a copy of my DL with my home address and a copy of a water bill with the house as my service address. Thats why this request surprised me

I love creative writing prompts like that. Makes me get all sorts of surreal. Granted, it's not very constructive if I'm trying to do business.

But, and I mean this sincerely, I'd love to see the face on the person reading a response that went into detail explaining that originally the addresses were the same...but one night Uncle Lou got to drinking and decided he wanted to play with his crane and flatbed semi a little bit...
