First of all thank you to all of you that post in this section. I've been reading and trying to learn. Biggest catfish I ever caught before was about 10 pounds. There is no way I should have landed this fish, used 1 1/2" cube of chicken breast soaked in dead red. Ande 20 pound tournament line. 8' Ugly Stick white catfish rod and a #4 Kahles hook. It was hooked in the side of the mouth in the soft skin between the upper and lower jaw. Took 15 minutes to get it to the surface and two of us to drag it over the pontoon fencing with 2/3 of it hanging out of the net.

Caught on Tawakoni about 1/2 mile south of 2 miles bridge in 32' of water. Temp was 53.6 degrees.

I am 5' 10" 280 pounds and this fish makes me look normal sized lo. No scale but it was 50 inches long. Any ideas on weight? Online says approx. 62 - 65 pounds. Does that seem right? I know it was all I could do to hold it and it is pressed against my chest in every picture so no holding out toward the camera.

Thanks again, y'all are awesome. Hope to see you on Tawakoni sometime. I'm in a Maroon Manitou tri-toon with a Fun and Sun Black motor cover.

Dang pics are sideways, Photobucket isn't letting me edit them for some reason.

Forgot to mention, we were fishing for eater sized fish. Only caught two 1 1/2 pound channels before this. We did have 3 good hits that didn't hook up. May have been big fish. The dang wind changed directions 3 times on us. We were out there from 9:30 til 5:30. Caught the blus around 3:00pm.

Big ole cat fish dude! WTG!
On the lake I fish, Lake Livingston, the rod and reel record is a 48" blue cat fish that weighed 71#, but they do vary quit a bit in length to weight ratio from lake to lake and fish to fish, depending on girth, and all kinds of factors.

That's big ole cat fish and congrats!

However much it weighed, you need a bigger net, lol!
I have taken a lot of folks out cat fishing after learning how to catch the big ones.
I always ask as we leave the marina, "What is the biggest cat fish you ever caught on rod and reel?" the answer is almost always 10#, as most people fish for eating size cat fish with appropriate tackle. A 10# cat fish is about the tops you can land with that size tackle, on average.
I always smile and tell them, I bet you catch a bigger one today.
And when it happens I feel the magic just like the first time when the rod slams down and the fish hooks up.
Keep on fishing!

I'd say that fish was in the 40lb range. I caught one bigger and it was only 57.8 on certified scales. I could swear that fish was a lot heavier in my hands than on that scale. Regardless that a great fish. Good job.

My buddy holding the fish. Hes 6'2" and about 260lbs

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.
