Anybody tried for crappie yet? Thinking of putting the float tube on the water and hitting the highway bridge pilings.

I think I would try the rocks at Oak Cove Marina before I get in a float tube in the middle of winter!

I would stay in sight of my vehicle, but I have heard they are starting to catch them at Matie Caston. We won't be there until we have some work finished on our boat, but with the lake full again, it could be like the good old days!

Why would you be hesitate to get in a float tube this time of year? It isn't that cold and as long as the wind isn't too strong it should be fine. I grew up in CO and have broken ice to get a float tune on open water. I guess we have a different definition of "winter."

Mattie Caston Park and the back end of Grape Creek should both be producing some prespawn crappie. If I were going to float a tube, I'd go to the north bridge on the Chambers arm. My 2 cents...

It's on the north side of the Richland arm. You can get there thru the back roads. Not quite as accessable as Mattie Caston, but there are county roads that will get you there. Just get on Google Maps and check it out. Look at Grape and Crab Creeks they're both great spawn creeks.

Okay Thanks Eric.A while back I recall you were relocating to the Lake Lewisville area if my memory serves me correctly. If so how has the fishing experience been for you?

Sorry to say but there won't be a fishing report from RC. It is pouring out so I'm opting for staying dry.

Im sure contemplating heading down there Thursday. Wind is supposed to be kicking a little but I dont think I will have to get out on the main lake to get to my creek. Anyone have a clue about what water temps have been doing?

I have unsuccessfully tried to find both spots before the smartphone and maps app! Caught lots of cats at crab creek though, both on the bank and in the boat. I was visiting with a fella a couple weeks back...he and some old his buds were catching them at the interstate bridge, Richland creek arm.
