You guys think this rain will officially start the white bass run here in North Texas? I've been catching quite a few small males on my most recent trips. Probably going Sunday I'll post a report if I do any good fingers crossed!

Rain was kinda cold. That's a big maybe. Depends on the creek, might get a small run of scouts, but it's very unlikely we will get a full blown spawn run. Still a month away for that maybe more.

Go check in a couple days. If you're catching now, you'll catch more after the rain.

I wonder when the shad will be in the DFW creeks. The catfish seem to follow them.

I've been catching white bass in the creeks all winter as usual. However Sunday the bite was different as most fish were caught in water about 2' deep over sandbars with a very aggressive bite. Most were small "sneaky males" that usually arrive early in the creeks but there was at least one big female looking like she was about to burst. The water temp was 60 degrees. Now with this cold rain / cold front it will slow them down a bit but I may try again next week.

For anyone doubting, this is from before the rain. Big fat females. Hubbard fish are HUGE this year. Some you can already squeeze eggs out of, and males milting all over. It doesn't always depend on exact time of year or temperatures. When they eggs/milt are developed/produced, they will make their run and do their thing. A little cold snap, or a less than ideal "cold" rain isn't going to stop them. They're not going to go, "Oh, carp! It's a little chilly. Guess I better turn around and stop developing/producing eggs/milt til it's a little more comfortable." Granted the eggs may or may not survive due to lower water temps, but the fish will still do their thing. There's been years that we were picking ice off of our guides between casts, and catching limits of sandies in less than 2' of water. Bottom line, get out and scout it after the rain. You'll never know until you see for yourself. And come check out the seminar at Bass Pro Garland at 2pm this Saturday. Lots to learn.
