Went with my dad yesterday for the first time, we were trying for sandbass but couldn't seem to find them. I did end up catching 4 but in different locations on the river, along with a decent crappie and 5 lmb. Anybody have any tips or spots for me to try any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used to start around Broke Rock at the first of Feb and start working my way to Spring Creek. I've caught larger males as far up as Brazos Point the second week in Feb. Try the deep hole at the base of the mountain with live bait or jigging a slab. You might even try trolling a rattle trap just to help locate em. I haven't done it in a few years as I don't live in that area anymore but I couldn't begin to count the number of hours I've spent chasing sandies in that part of the river. Most of the places that used to give you access are closed now but that didn't stop me from getting to my favorite spots. I've actually been thinking about a weekend trip in the kayak and just cover as much water as I can. They always seemed to be there,I just had to find them and stay on them. That was the way I would start if I was still in that area. Hope that helps you find a school or two for some good old fashioned lip rippin'

It's a great place, that gets much traffic. With the rain I would head up river as far as I could.
