Underrated fish in my book. Great sport and very willing to take lures. One of my favorite lures to use for drum is the N.E.D rig.

Totally agree! Plus...I think they just might be our prettiest fresh water fish!

Here is a couple of pics of some large drum I caught last spring. Lots of fun on light tackle!

basically it's a small flat head type jig and a stubby soft plastic bait. I use the Zman finesse TRD worms and Zman finesse shroomz jigs. The rig has caught me almost every freshwater fish you can catch . I have caught drum,largemouth/spotted bass, hybrid striper/white bass, panfish, gar, catfish, and even had a carp hit one once. Great bait.

Dude I've got some of these. How do you fish these? Jig? Slow? Can't seem to catch anything.

If the fish don't bite your not baiting right...

Really just depends on what the fish want. Hard to fish it wrong. Jig off bottom, dead stick it and the worm stands straight up off bottom, swim it in fast to get a reaction bite from active bass, etc..... bottom bouncing has worked best for me with drum in the past. Usually find them near current in the break...

You want drum and lots of them just use live crawfish on a little circle hook. I like to use a small Carolina rig set up. Set it and forget it....til the rod doubles over. They are good eating too

Nice catch! In Deep Southeast Texas and Cajun country those are called Gaspergou. They actually have a run in the spring that is fished in the Bayous with a lot of enthusiasm. I've caught those mean rascals on just about every sort of bait both artificial and natural except top waters lures.

They grow to over 30lbs and are a real shocker when you are bass fishing and get one. They fight HARD and don't stop after a short fight like a bass does. Bass are ambush predators while the drum is on the move all the time. They are opportunistic feeders like the bigger blue catfish. The smaller ones are excellent table fare but most people don't eat them and you will occasionally hear that they are full of little bones. This comes from people that have mistaken a Buffalo for a Drum. The drum filets just like a white bass.

The bigger ones are ok but like most fish the older fish aren't as good as the younger fish. I don't eat blue cats that are much over 15 or 20 lbs either though so it might just be me. If you like the way they fight you need to look into carp fishing for fun. They have very similar fighting abilities and you can find carp on a more regular basis. Drum are one of the finest fighting game fish in the US freshwater.

You know that old saying "Some people march to the beat of a different drummer."? I don't listen to a drum at all and have meandered through life instead of marching.
