Tests have indicated that the line "weight" of fishing lines is mostly just a reference number rather than an actual indication of its breaking point. For example the biggest difference between Triline XL and Triline XT is that XT has a larger diameter and a higher breaking point in the same line weight. Nearly all monofilament lines have their diameter on the line spool or box.


What you need to do is buy line that is IGFA certified. If it is, it will be printed on the spool label.
