I just like the idea of using a rigid foam float at the end of the line instead of a carabiner. The float part should be big enough to slightly hang up in smallish pocket even if it unzips. You just grab the float, stuff and zip in the pocket to hook up (maybe 5 seconds), then unzip and toss out the float to release (maybe 3 seconds). You can also instantly adjust the length of line quickly by making the float out of an scrap wooden yard stick or lath (that floats) in the shape of a cord winder (cut to length so it just hangs up inside of a designated pocket). Lots of possibilities...

So you tye the foam to the end of the line and wrap the line around the pillion & back into a pocket on your tube and zip it back up?

Fishbonz,

Yes, basically I like the idea of an instant hook up and release station that can tell you where you have been or will be hovering. Hook to the pylon throwing the float- as previously described, but cinch the hook end around the pylon. Usually there is at least a light wind, so the float will be downwind from the pylon. Also, wind the rope length if you want to work from a position closer or further away from the pylon. Then, add a second lightweight snap hook on the float itself to quickly hook up, if you don't want to zip up the float itself into a pocket. I haven't tested it yet, but seems like an idea to try.

I do it all the time with my sea eagle fold cat. I punch a hole through a soft ball and tie a nylon fish stringer to this then attach it to a longer rope. I approach the pylon down wind using my trolling motor. Best way is to flip the motor around backwards and come to the pylon from the transom. If not, wind just kills you. Once I get just past the pylon I throw the softball around the pylon and catch it as the wind blows me back with my paddle that has a hook attached to the end.

Once you do it a couple times it's a real easy way to fish. Works great on timber as well. here's a nice limit of crappie I caught doing this back in October at Ray Roberts. Once the water warms a little and the cedar pollen goes down I'll be glad to show you. As a retired guy, I'll be crappie fishing almost every day once that water gets back in the 50's.

I have just started tying to the pillions. And it is paying off. If the wind is over 10-15 MPH It really hold me in one location for a while. then I can untie and move to the next location. I am loving it. Thank each one of you for your help.

Mr. Fishbonz, Please be careful. I think i might sneak out to JP on tomorrow at about noon. Not sure if I will tie up. Do you know if there is still one or two crappie holding to the pillions?

It was just to windy to fish. I got a couple of hits but could not hold the tube in any place.

I had my old motor give up the ghost at lake Fork one day and had to use my paddle. It made it tough so I hear ya.

I would think some good swim fins might move a tube pretty well.
