I do it all the time with my sea eagle fold cat. I punch a hole through a soft ball and tie a nylon fish stringer to this then attach it to a longer rope. I approach the pylon down wind using my trolling motor. Best way is to flip the motor around backwards and come to the pylon from the transom. If not, wind just kills you. Once I get just past the pylon I throw the softball around the pylon and catch it as the wind blows me back with my paddle that has a hook attached to the end.

Once you do it a couple times it's a real easy way to fish. Works great on timber as well. here's a nice limit of crappie I caught doing this back in October at Ray Roberts. Once the water warms a little and the cedar pollen goes down I'll be glad to show you. As a retired guy, I'll be crappie fishing almost every day once that water gets back in the 50's.
