Thought I would share this story with you all, gave me a pretty good jump when I least expected it! Yesterday I cut out of work early and headed to my favorite spot close to my house, it's a little section of White Rock Creek on the west side of Plano, I had been working my way up and down the bank since 5:30 or so and by 6:15 only had one fish landed. I was starting to get discouraged along with it being cold/windy I was just about to head out when behind me I hear some leaves rustle that sound unnatural. I turn to look and 15 feet away staring right at me is a full grown 25-30 pound bobcat. I jumped about 10 feet in the air and dang near took a dip in the pond. It looked up at me like I startled it and darted off full speed. After I realized what it was I tried to smooch at it and get it to stop, but by that time there was no stopping it she was gone. Craziest thing I've ever seen in the middle of Plano! I had heard they had a problem but never expected to see one like that. I have seen them while hunting in the tree stand but seeing one that close was just unnerving.

Beautiful creatures that will tear you a new arse if you corner them or make them feel threatened. I live in McKinney and see them late at night going through the neighborhood chasing rabbits.

If I saw one that close to me unexpected, I would done the same thing.

Seems to be a good population of them in pockets around DFW. I see them around River Legacy in a-town, minding their biz.

They are more scared of you, than you are of them. Usually they spot you before you spot them and they'll take off before you had a clue they were around. You must have blended in the brush real well or he simply did not spot you. Just never turn your back to them or run. If they do attack which I highly doubt it stand your ground and grab anything you can (branches/rocks/fishing pole) and try to scare it off. Most importantly protect your neck area (jugular)

It was definitely a lot closer than I would've liked to be, those cats are so quiet I'm surprised I even heard it walking. Guess it was just so close, I figured I gave it more of a fright than it gave me so I wasn't in much danger but you never know. It didn't stick around very long to chat lol.

I too have seen a few bobcats at WRC west plano along with a bunch of coyotes. I have yet to encounter any of these species that were aggressive.

I've had a skunk come wondering along the bank from the downstream wooded area multiple times just at night. Soon as it sees me it stops and runs back to the woods. Used to live on WRC at belt line. Saw a bobcat under the bridge once that passed behind me, was a spectacular catfishing spot until a stupid beaver made its home there and wouldn't leave.... fish don't bite well with a tail slap every 30 seconds.

Nice sized prints at a creek I fish, not sure but they do seem like feline paws. Always had a strange feeling as if I was being watched especially from a tree OMG

I still work in Frisco, and I know that they are doing some construction around white rock creek....but there are some nice spots along the creek! And the bobcats are def known around plano...that's why plano senior high school is the wildcats :p haha

we have a small tributary creek of Dixons Branch which flows into WRL as our back yard, coyotes are in the creek / backyard several times a week. A neighbor spotted a bobcat ths past fall strolling between two houses down the street and heading to the creek. so far the worst wild animal is a huge barn owl, about every other year it nests in the trees along the creek between mine and my next door neighbors house, it swoops down when we open the garage door from time to time.

Sounds scary, but id rather see 10 bobcats than one moccasin. IMO the Most dangerous thing we encounter out there (other than other fisherman lol)

The dude abides...

I live in Plano by renner and brand and occasionally see bobcats chasing rabbits in my neighborhood in the mornings. I was a little startled the first time I saw them, but after seeing them a few more times, I've gotten used to them. I still peek out before letting my little dog out in the morning just in case.

I used to fish a stretch of white rock in Plano all the time. Never had a problem with bobcats, but the snakes were everywhere

I saw a large one off a cement trail next to the creek right by the woods at Renner/190/75, southeast corner as the trail goes under Central.

I was on my bike, summer morning, and this bobcat was big, very big. From a distance he was a big as a German Shepard, and his color was brown, like milk chocolate brown, not gray. I'd never seen one that color. I was not quick enough to get a photo, or see where he went as he went between the trail guard rail, over the embankment down toward the creek. I looked for a long time, but that rascal was swift or well-hidden.
