I would recommend a good worm rod that has a weight rating down to 1/8 oz. Typically that is going to be a medium power. Feel is extremely important, like TX rig fishing. I like to use 12 lb fluorocarbon with a small diameter to maximize feel. I really like to use the 5/16 oz wobble head for the weight/hook.

Use an Owner Ultra Point Ultra Shaky. Very well made.

I use the Owner shaky heads also and throw them with a baitcaster. Many people also use spinning tackle for shaky heads.

I use a 6ft 9in rod made by Ron @ Reel Time rods and a Lews reel with 12 pound test Invizx fluorocarbon line.

I use a baitcast combo for throwing shakey heads and a lot of time, I tie a drop shot hook above it. Double rigging and you often get 2 fish per cast, if they are biting aggressively. I use a custom made Shikari P803 and it works GREAT for these presentations. LOTS of feel, parabolic reaction to fish and fighting them and a VERY good setup. After that, I go to a shakey head rod made by Dobyns, the Fury 703 rod and it works GREAT as well. 10-12# McCoys Mean Green and hang on. I use the shakey heads made by a guy over on the Plugs and Announcements board, jsust got a package of them earlier this week. I also ordered the shakey head setup with the free swinging hook, better hook ups on finicky fish. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I've tried a lot of shaky heads and like the Owner jig head the best because of the 4/0 hook size and the screw lock with centering pin. I use a spinning reel with a 6'8" medium action spinning rod. Line is 30# braid with a 12 lb. leader (P-line CX Premium which is a copolymer line with an outer coating of fluorocarbon). The braid really increases the sensitivity, doesn't stretch much on the hook set, and gives you less hassle overall with a spinning reel.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Throw mine on a heavy with a fast tip, 14lb fluro. Owner is a good sh, but hook not stout enuff when fishing brush in my opinion.
