looked on other forums, and seems to somewhat be a "ford vs chevy":) issue. I hear great things about PP service I have a Ranger 175 so the room for pumps is a concern, or it could be a game ender, haven't gotten that far. I'm not a speed demon so a little loss of speed isn't a concern. I like the idea of Talons dropping straight down vs protruding away, only in that many times I'd like to peg down i'm tightly confined. Also, I prefer fishing points with the aft of the boat up towards the point shore, nose out, so I can fan the point and stay in contact with the bottom better. So holding in rough water is a must. I have searched the net trying to find videos of these holding in rough water. Found holding in river currents and high winds, but only one on coastal beach. I'm guessing it's not a problem with them being used by offshore flat fisherman, but want to get what I need when spending $4K As always I appreciate all the experience you guys provide to help us not reinvent the wheels.

I have a power pole but would prefer a Talon if they had a better history. I fish on the coast and Redfish seem to have an affinity for them stick out the back of the boat!!!! Also I have had them blow off hydraulic lines. If you push the button and nothing happens STOP pushing the buttons. It just sprays hydraulic fluid everywhere and makes a mess. It is a giant pain if they are down in deep water and you loose a line. It is hard to get them back up.

I have both on two different boats and both have a place, I guess it's personal preference. PowerPole has excellent customer service but Talon requires less room if space is a factor. They both do the same thing but indifferent ways.

I'm looking just like you. I haven't found any one thing to choose one over the other yet. I am leaning towards the talons mainly for simplicity and deeper anchoring. I like the idea of just unplugging and removing one if repairs need to be made. Electric seems to be the simpler choice over hydraulic

Do a search. This has been beaten up many times already!

As you said, it's a Ford/Chevy debate. I sell both and can answer most any questions. As to getting a bad rap, the 1st generation 2 stage Talons did this. When they were redesigned to three stage, they were much improved. John

Everything is being improved upon and you might be looking at old information. So John, what are the negatives of the 12" talon? I have no loyalty to either brand so it just seems like a no brained to go with the deeper device

Get a trolling motor with the anchor feature. Problem solved and you save about 90 -130 lbs of weight added to your boat changing the hole shot and top end speed. The new spot lock "anchor" on the MotorGuide or Minn Kota motors will hold your boat I position very well even in windy conditions. I like the fact that when fishing points I can set my boat up and fish from the back of the boat if need be.

I have the terrova already. I just like to add the ability to be more stealthy in shallow water
