Got the chance to fish Lewisville yesterday from about 10-3. Caught my new PB of a 34" Blue cat. At first I thought it was a giant channel he was so dark. If he was I released him because he was a slot fish just in case he was a blue. Anyways I wanted to thank EL GATO AZUL for some tips and encouragement on getting out there and looking. I'm still learning to use my graph and got there kind of late and I think I missed the main early morning bite. I caught the big one at 2:15 in the peak heat of the day. The one in the bucket i caught around 10 am drifting. I know I need a deep water net and that would really up my game. I can find the shad in 25 foot of water but my net is cheep and wont sink fast enough. I had to go to some flats in about 10 foot of water and throw and throw until I caught enough shad and one good carp for bait. Majority of all shad are still in over 20 feet of water. I saw very little shad or fish on the side scan in water less than 20 feet deep. There are big clouds of bait in 25 plus feet of water. I'm still learning but excited to have a little success on a bright calm day. Now I can't wait to take my boys out with some of my new tools I have learned. Hope you all get a chance to go soon

Does any one have any side scan pics of catfish to where you say this looks like a good spot to stop and fish?
I think I see maybe 3 or 4 in a scan but I'm not sure if thats the mother load im looking for or is normal etc. Any advice would be appreciated..

Good job Oakpoint. If you see this on your screen in 25ft of water start drifting. Caught 9 fish on the first drift here that day. I said earlier I'd help people learn to catch shad on Lewisville but I just noticed you had Aggie in your screen name so Azul will have to help you out

Keep some nightcrawlers or Bar S hotdogs in the boat for days when you can't catch shad. Stubby's cheesebait will work to for drifting.
He is truly a sick individual.

I grew up a Bama fan and all my wife's family went to Texas. Those Aggies just can rub you the wrong way. No problems with Tech. They are just another Texas team as far as I'm concerned. Glad you helped him out. I'll see you guys on the water sometime.

Aggies need a little help every now and then ! haha I appreciate the screen shot Jacky. The orange palette makes sense now I assume all those are catfish or just the bigger ones. Or are you looking at a combination of fish and shadows.. This is a great forum

Combination of different fish in that shot. The brighter or hotter fish were hybrids and we did catch a 22" hybrid on that drift. The duller fish closer to the bottom were blues. Look for an area that has bait and fish. Seems like if I'm seeing lots of fish in a flat like this we get bit. They move everyday so I normally drive thru and do some scanning with side imaging out as far as 90-105 ft in 25 ft of water. If I don't like what I see I go check another area. I always see the really big fish when I'm crappie fishing. Go figure.
