I'm gonna start paying more attention to pressure.

I know Carey Thorne has done a write up on here about pressure. Does anyone have a link to it?

Or

What is the ideal bp vs red zone no go barometric pressure?

It's a big, big deal.
People track moon phases with a passion. The barometer has a lot more to do with the bite.
Grandma kept a homemade barometer on the back porch. She knew when to go and when to stay home.

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

Yesterday I downloaded a b.p. app for my phone and went fishing. After fishing for 30 minutes and catching every cast, they shut down completely. The pressure rose.

There has been plenty of times I have went when the pressure was rising fast and or too high and tore the fish up as well as vise versa. Pressure isn't everything it is cracked up to be JMO.

It is a mystery to me. I have done both good and bad during high pressure, usually bad. I simply fish when I can, which here lately has not been enough. bang

That is my experience as well. I am sure it has some affect on some fish, but I have had numerous great days when the pressure was extremely high and if the fish could read the Internet, they would have known they were not supposed to be biting.

Carey Thorn has a lot of experience and should be taken seriously on this subject. When he shares, people should pay attention and listen. It will help them become better fishermen.

I have marked fish on my downscan at 50 ft that were actually leaning against tree limbs to balance in 70 ft of water when the Bp was high. They wouldn't move much till I drop a jig in their face and I felt a crappie like tap and set the hook then hold on!
I fish when I can but realize may not do well when the Bp is doing what Carey is describing.
Thanks Carey for the time you spend gathering info and sharing with us. It is appreciated by most of us.

It likely has zero effect. Read my "nerd" report on barometric pressure here and you will likely understand my argument. In a nutshell, it ISN'T about the effects of pressure on a fish, it is about the weather conditions that accompany the readings.

Let's see if this link works up to the bass section of TFF:

Most of the personal "field research" on this topic reeks of confirmation bias. There does seem to be something to it, but I think Brad is right about what it is.

Agreed. Just a bit of confusion, sort of "mixing metaphors."

We know fairly emphatically that weather does affect fishing, fish movement, water clarity, bait fish versus prey fish and the latter looking for the former.

So, we don't do certain things in cold water when fish are sluggish, we don't do certain things when we have blue bird skies, we don't do things when the water is calm. I think these are the things fish react to.

Like I said, the reason for the little math exercise was just to "put a number on it." If we can agree that all a fish has to do is move a few inches, up or down, in the water column to negate a change in pressure on it, it should inform our thoughts.

Brad

This article is about crappie movement, barometric pressure changes and weather changes. This study was with crappie with implanted transmitters for tracking. So theories and math were put aside for this one. Article starts slow, but keep reading further down. May not have anything to do with white bass. Enjoy.
