What a day on Lake Travis! Myself,Bob(Bob Landry) and Mike (USMC GY),fished Lake Travis and the Bluegill bite was GREAT! We fished out of Bob's boat who met Mike and I at the boat ramp. We fished from 9:30am till 2:00pm. The day was perfect. Mild temperatures and a slight southerly breeze with blue skies. We started fishing inside some coves by some sunken timber and by some rock ledges. The bite was slow. We also tried some dock slips with no luck. We then fished by some docks in 20 to 25 feet of water and we hit "PAY DIRT"! We found a bunch of nice Bluegill and the action was non stop for about two hours. We boated about 50 fish and kept a Play Mate full for the frying pan. A couple of small bass and Hybrid Sunfish rounded out the catch. The bite stopped at 1:30pm.Fish were caught using worms with a bottom technique. Lake Travis is a beautiful lake and is in great shape. Should be a great place to catch some nice gills. Fishing a GREAT lake with two GOOD friends. It just don't get any better! fish

Nice report! Nothing better than good company and great fishing.

On a side note, looks like you and Bob could be brothers.

Good job, gang! cheers

Whenever I see really light colored 'fills like that (we call them honeydew 'gills) it always makes me smile and think how much they will change in color and body structure in a month or two.

Average depth is around 63 ft. The channel that runs in the middle has places that are over 150 ft deep. We have had drownings where the bodies could not be recovered.

Thank you Sir. That is one very deep lake! Looking at the map it is also a very long lake about 60 miles! You have one beautiful place to fish!

It's also a tough lake to fish, but then I suppose they all are. It doesn't get a lot of pressure, an occasional bass tournament and a crappie guy or two, but it's mainly a recreational lake. During summer weekends, you don't even want to be on the water. The juveniles on their jet fleas make it pretty much unbearable. Add to that the monstrous wakes created by the wake boarders and the big cabin cruiser guys with testosterone issues and too much money, and the go-fast boats, and it's not a lot of fun.
Weekdays are the best.

Pretty much like the weekends, not quite as bad. You have a lot of kids with Daddy's boat and a 6-pack trying to impress their girlfriends. If you can spend your time back in the coves and pretty much stay out of the main areas. it can be bearable.

You should see Dunlap,Mcqueeney, and Placid during the summer months! It's a CIRCUS! At least Travis is a huge lake that can handle larger boats. Dunlap,Mcqueeney, and Placid are way to small to handle the wake boats. Just my two cents.

Awesome post and super Bluegill. Great seeing the posse at work! Travis is on my list for this year. Hopefully to be fishing it during the fall! May take the flyrod however for what I know about the lake it's a very deep one with few shallow areas to fly fish. Any suggestions on some shallow areas of the lake ?

Travis might be really tough with a fly rod. Even the few bank areas that are accessibleare cliff and ledges with sheer dropoffs below the water line.
