Anyone know if Alamo Beach is still open?....Also Wharton's Dock. I know they used to charge a fee to launch there when the lake was up years back, and now that the lake is up again I'm wondering if you can launch there?

Whartons dock is open, kind of rough launch area with the concrete slag everywheres. Pops is closed and been for sale, I miss them being open. Way closer to launch than the state park. Never heard of Alamo Beach.

Alamo Beach is what Pop's place used to be called, and I guess only the old timers like me are the only one's that called it by the old name. No surprise that Pop's isn't open as they were barely hanging on for years with change in ownership like a revolving door, and the same with Wharton's Dock. With the low water levels it's hard to make it when you only have the locals to stay in business. Glad to hear Wharton's is open. I used to own property there up until about 25 years ago and I haven't been there since....Time flies!

Jimbo, they have been decimated by the drought without a doubt. Many of the lakes have fallen on hard times, all the hotels around Amistad have closed. Hotels at Choke are on their death beds too, the fishing economy in south Texas is bad, very bad.
Sorry to get a bit off topic, but I know Jimbo doesn't get to fish too much anymore.

Jimbo just like Marcus said, there are still some left in Medina just not as many. The place to be for the whites is on the Nueces down at George West, they are loading the boats there! Debra

We went Saturday scouting, hit the backs of coves with little to show. Did ok on small black bass at the mouths and points 25' of water. Jimbo asked about whites, we seen a couple schools along the creek channel across from goat hill area. 25' ledge dropping to 43'. But...That was 5pm and boy said, let's go load the boat,I'm cold! So we'll check that area this weekend hopefully. And hopefully get the new ipilot trolling motor installed. Going without a troller is frustrating. BTW,the carp are schooled up and in the shallows sucking larva or something off the surface. Nice I guess if you need to adjust settings on your graph but...

Fished Sunday in the fog and only turned up 3 keepers, several smaller bites. Also noticed a very large school of carp on the surface near the spillway. I feel like they are just about ready to move up. Found a point with some grass on it, I had no clue that was a thing, I thought they were all sticks and rocks. Anyone else find grass?

It wasn't hydrilla, but i'm not sure what type.
It was underwater in 6-8 ft and what I brought up on my crankbait a couple times looked like bermuda runners almost. Brownish green color, no real leaves yet.
I'll have to get a picture next time unless someone knows what I am talking about.

It's getting close for the whites up river, but they should be staging in the Mormon's bluff area at the mouth of the river.

Went Saturday afternoon, pile of folks and boats at Lebold point. I just idled past. Didn't see much action. Guy caught a small white in the shallow cane. Zoomed up to the cove near Alamo beach,TM up creek a ways but pretty dead. Just decomposing cane and grass. At the mouth on way out, shad was busting and small black bass were after them. I got my ipilot mounted and front graph. Was a equipment tweaking/tryout trip. Beautiful day to be on the water. But ride back to the ramp was a tad cold at dusk just t-shirt and shorts. I did see some fools pulling a tube at dusk, and a drunk kayaker taking up both lanes and 10min to load into a truck. Oh county ramp has some perks for membership.

Went Saturday again earlier this time. Still trying to see where the crappie are. Hit the shallows up river. 4' water to the side=12-14" black bass. Went to 30' water on structure towards Turks and just bluegill nibbles and 12" bass, went to steep cove 80' main lake and marked deep fish,by then it was 2pm and need to take a break. Came back near 4pm and hit the cove to right of the island. Marked fish at a channel,39' steep drop off. Again short bass. Very active on blue and white crappie jigs. Went back to the deep cove. Marked hybrids at 70-80' active feeding. Spot locked in 86-89' and jigged right off the bottom. Quick hookup and short fight. A 12" black bass. His eyes popping out but swam quickly back to the deep. Gave up on that and hit the 30' near by on structure again and activity, last short bass at dark. We had enough. All caught on crappie jigs of some flavor of blue and goldfish. Going to be great bass lake. Schooling shorties everywhere. Either I need to give up on crappie and start getting better on black bass,or someone needs to throw me a bone. Fun day on the water, thought about going again today but I needed to take a break and my boat trailer needed work. If I can't figure out crappie here,I'm gonna travel
