We have had the strangest of runs going on three years parts of the state sandbass have just taken up residency. Allowing us a year round "run". This mild winter has had fish itching to go up all over. Been a good while I've seen fish moving up this early in multiple river systems. Especially in north Texas but nature knows best. With our limited time we opted for a spot way further up river today. Mateo and I know bigger females are showing up further down we just didn't have the time today. The time we had was worth every minute! Mateo beat me down to the water by about 15 yards. He still had on a hopper dropper rig with a bugger below a popper. Before I got my boots wet I see a splash on the popper. It started pulling weird as he pulled up a double lol. I get in the water and next cast we both stike two person double. Pretty much stayed like that I don't ever remember sandbass this active this early in the year. No splitshot even we were in 18 inches of water and you could retrieve as fast or as slow as you wanted too. Most smaller males a lot around legal size but for as far up as we were a very pleasant surprise. We caught fish till it was almost pitch black the moon and stars were out. After getting off of work in the metro mess could not ask for a prettier surroundings or a better ending to the evening.

Awesome, that's my kind of fishing. I'm addicted to white bass fishing with the fly rod. It hasn't heated up to that extent on Somerville yet but with these warm days we may see the same thing any day now.

Great post brother thumb

Thanks guys! I'm finally out of my tree with deer season over now. I really wish I would have looked at the air pressure yesterday. The fish were highly active the were even taking midges of the surface like trout. They were looking up for sure. No doubt great way to end the day may run up the river in the boat Wednesday.

Thanks Capt. That was actually the second cast double. I couldn't get my phone out of my water proof pocket quick enough on the first cast double lol. Kurt I am fortunate to have access to a private launch below pk. As well as three private access spots between gb and Whitney. These fish were between gb and Whitney. None of the surrounding land owners fish exept maybe catfish so normally get solitude.
