 Sabine River trip

Some buddies and i are considering a few night trip down the Sabine from dewyville tx to Sabine lake via bass boats, and a barge. My question is.. For those that know the waterway, is there enough depth for a barge and bass boat and can those type vessels get under the two train tracks that cross the river btw there. Obviously this depends on floods, etc etc. just looking for some local knowledge???

The folks at the Texas Sabine River Authority in Orange make trips down the river from Toledo Bend occasionally. You might want to call and ask if they can give you first-hand advice.

The southern most set of tracks I would guess typically has 12 feet or so of clearance. I have never laid eyes on the tracks up by Deweyville. Just to be on the safe side you need to get your tow vehicles down to the Simmons drive boat ramp in Orange for the over night stay. There is a large/lighted parking lot there with cameras that are wired directly to dispatch. If you need more info PM me and I will give you my cell.

I wouldn't put a big bass boat in Deweyville boat ramp unless you really know the river and are good at doing fiberglass work . I live close and always use my aluminum boat when i go.

The shallow spots are pretty identifiable if you hang out on a river very much. I think redallison is referring to are the snags. In my opinion it should not be an issue provided you stay aware of your surroundings and keep your wits about you. This section of the Sabine is not near as "snaggy" as the Trinity north of Livingston, Angelina north of Etoile or the Sabine north of Tbend (if you can relate to those references).Once you get South of the West Bluff community the river starts to deepen and widen as you go. Basically only 1/2 your trip will be kinda sketchy but doable....
