I have been looking at homes around both of these lakes and wondered what the living environment (crime) is like.
I am 70 and want to live in peace and be close to a good lake to fish.
any input appreciated.

I have a house on Cedar Creek in Leisure land. It is a weekend home, have had it a little over a year and have no crime or issues. The homes around me are a mix of weekenders and permanent residents. I got to know the neighbors and we watch out for each other. Never had any crime issues around the house or water. Water levels seem to change about 2-2.5 feet over the year, so keep that in mind if you get a dock. Make sure you have enough water under it when the lake drops 2 feet. I have been very happy on Cedar Creek. I do mostly catfishing on jug lines or rod and reel. They have plenty of catfish in the lake if you like that type of fishing. I know they have large mouth, whites and hybrids as well, just don't go after those too much. I would recommend Cedar Creek, but I have never been to Palestine so no way for me to compare. There is plenty in Gun Barrel City for shopping, restaurants, etc. I used Janice Haney with Johnson Monroe realty and she did a great job in helping me find what I wanted on the water. If you need a realtor, give her a call. Good luck with your search and if you have any specific questions about Cedar Creek, let me know.

Doesn't Dennis Christian live on Cedar Creek? His handle here on the forum is Dennis Christian, He probably knows that lake better than most. I don't know him personally, but certainly admire his passion for fishing and have used his technique successfully for years!!! Thanks Dennis!!!

Cedar Creek has certain neighborhoods to stay away from but others are very good. Carolyn Estates is a really good safe and gated community.

I live in Athens which pretty much splits the distance between the two. Athens is a pretty nice place to live. Lots of fishing around, not much crime and the people are friendly.

I live on CC and love it. It has some great areas to live, as does Palestine. But both have some very junky areas as well. Look at areas with strong property rules if you are concerned about the neighborhood.
