On a budget and looking to replace one of my units. Anyone using the Elite 9 Ti. Pros or cons. I am replacing an Elite 7HDI so understand some of the limitations I can expect between the 9 Ti and a HDS unit of the same size.

The TI units are Elites on steroids. You get touch screen and the GPS processor is much quicker. You will also have side scan if you purchase the total scan version and you can manually enter waypoints with the TI's. I replaced one of my Elite 7's when the 7 TI came out and now plan on adding a 12 TI at my console.

Only con would be your still not able to share map cards between two units, but still can share everything two linked Elites would.

Sorry JWRid, I don't mean to high jack your thread but this question is about limitations of the 9TI & map sharing.

GTrigg - I have an Elite 7HDI at the bow & I would like to put a 9TI at the console, if I do are you saying that if I link them with NMEA 2000 I still won't be able to share my mapcard & waypoints from the 9TI up to the Elite 7HDI unit on the bow?

From what I read, it looks like you can share way points but not one map card for two units.
I have two HDS 7 gen 1's that I would like to upgrade. the Elite 9 Ti is an upgrade that I am looking at. Don't know if going from HDS to Elite is an upgrade but the age of my gen 1 units would lead me to believe this would be a better set-up.

I am legend...

If you buy a 9ti you will need another map card. It will share waypoints but not the map. The 9ti is about $900 and another $200 for the card. You can buy an HDS 9 gen 3 right now for $1100.

That's what I would do in your situation

As I mentioned I am currently running two Elite 7 HDI's. These units will not share map card either but have not found it to be cumbersome. I have the Navionics Platinum Hot Maps in the console unit and run a Navionics standard card in the bow. For detail charting I use the console and then when I move to the trolling motor have the standard. Honestly, I find the standard unit in the bow more useful as the creek channels and roadbeds are easier to see and follow than the Platinum chart.
