I'm planning on going to either Christmas Bay or Drum bay in freeport Texas this Sunday. I'll be taking my kayak , and target species is redfish and trout. It's my first time down there in a kayak. Any tips on safety? As well as any tips on where the fish are at and what they're biting on? I was planning on hitting the grass edges for redfish early then find a reef and try for trout as the day progressed. Also, is there any registration I need to be able to kayak those waters?

You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Check the weather. Wear your PFD at all times. Don't paddle out further than you're willing to paddle back. Watch for currents that push you out. Check the weather again.
