I used to be stationed at Ft Riley many years ago. Milford Lake and Tuttle Creek are nearby with Tuttle Creek being the best of the two lakes for fishing. Decent bass fishing and very good crappie lake. Very large white bass run as well. Check the lake level before heading out. Tuttle is the 2nd largest lake in Kansas. Check the website here:

Good luck!

Out of curiosity when do the white bass typically start running up north in Kansas (or midwest in general)?

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Was stationed at Frot Riley as well in the late 2000's... i highly disagree with the report from above... Lake Milford is a rock star lake for Small mouth, Walleye, tons of White and Hybrid Bass... even some good Black Bass... Tuttle Creek is a big mud pit. Happy hunting, i do miss Milford, use to fish that lake at least 4 times a week

Stockton is a good lake mostly clear water west side is more fertile, east side more clear. Walleye, Crappie, white bass, large black bass. Windy and Rough at times and tremendous pressure on the weekends in spring but a good lake. Do not take chances in bad weather always take a rain jacket and emergency blanket. Services are very scarce in off months. help/ rescue is usually hours away. Any color jig is great as long as it's green.

Your right Tuttle is not the best bass lake (or any kind of fishing) by far. If you go there for bass, fish the northern part as habitat is better. Crappie is getting better, fish the marina on the east side or the park on the west side in April/May.

I've lived most my life is SE Kansas and I start catching whites in the rivers/creeks in early March. April is money for the big females and it can run into May if you have snow or cold rain in late March and April.
