Was curious to get opinions on your preferred flouro to mono knots. Given how expensive flouro can be, I've started backing all my reels with mono and using 20' or so of flouro. My concern is minimizing the knot interference the knot while maximizing knot strength. I've also recently started utilizing some rods with micro guides. Will this setup be affected with mono backing? What lb mono would you recommend to maximize casting distance?

Alberto knot. Easy to tie in wind (keep that in mind)

I would use a Uni to Uni or a blood knot but use less wraps than what you normally would and keep the knot buried. Don't fill the reel so full of backing that the knot comes out. The "backing" line is only for filler so you save money by using less of the more expensive line.

The only time I have two different lines tied together and have the knot go through the rod guides is if I have braid tied to a leader line.

I think you will need to use more flouro then 20 feet is you expect to cast very far using mirco guides.. You might need to use 60 to 100 feet of line with mirco guides. Say you catch a good fish and it takes 20 more feet of drag to tire out the fish, then you will be passing the knot through the mirco guides and weaken the knot each time it passes through the guides...

My personal experience with longer leaders and micro guides has not been a good one.

And, for an Alberto/Albright knot, for tying on leaders that is, there is a special circumstance. For those of us using braid mainlines with fluorocarbon leaders, we "wrap" the braid around the fluoro loop because the braid will embed or bite into the fluoro leader material.
But, When you have mono as the mainline to a fluoro leader, you need to reverse the process: make a loop out of the mono and "wrap" the fluoro around it. Fluoro is much more dense and it'll bite into the softer mono, at least better than the reverse.
Way back up in the reel spool, this won't make a difference. Aaron Martens uses a simple overhand knot to attach a long leader (> than a long cast by a good margin) . . . says the knot will never feel any tension, that he reties often, so why bother.
