I need a good heavy spinning reel cheap to replace one that just broke. Any ideas what is good for a ten foot rod?

I have two of these brand new in their boxes that I bought last year and will never use. I have 2 of the model KK450B. I'll ship both of them TYD for $50. I can send you pics or you can look at the ones on the website. They have never been on a rod. King Kat II

I only need one. How big are they? I had a big salt water reel on a ten foot surf rod as my long distance rig, but the foot where it connects to the rod broke off. It's the only spinning rig I have. Everything else is Abu ambassadors.

I just got one of these in 4000 size (mainly to target carp for bait) since Cabelas was out of stock on their baitfeeder reels. It came from New Jersey in two days and seems to be decent for the $$. Runs smooth and casts well, smooth drag and baitfeeder works. 6000 size looks like it would work well for larger cats. I am considering grabbing a couple of the larger ones now myself. Does your rod have larger guides? If so, I'd recommend the Daiwa BG 4500 on a 10ft spinning rod.

Quantum Optix 60 for $24.99 at Academy. If you wanna get a BadAzz Reel get a Cabelas Salt Striker 65 Baitfeed. A Quantum Optix 60 on a 10' Water Eagle right here:

I have an Optix 60 also and think it is good for the cost. It just bugs me that there is no switch to turn off the anti reverse.

I just broke the Quantum Optix 60. It broke off the foot right below the reel. Only had it a year.

You are rough on reels then. Better spend $ on a metal body Reel.

Don't overlook the Okuma Avenger series reels, they also can be had with the baitfeeder feature. I run four of them (ABF55's) on 7' boat rods as my arsenal for big blues. No doubt there are better to be had, but at their price point the Avengers are good reels.
BTW, Okuma makes the Cabela's salt stryker reels.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

Can't hardly go wrong with the Penn reel. My little Fierce 3000 is a work horse with braid and casts a mile. Loves 35 lb ripcord braid. The 6000 or 8000 size will handle a whale. Drag is the best.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Guys, when it comes to spinning reels, you cannot beat this thing... It might be a little pricier than you are looking for but the Live Liner feature packed in with the other neat features of this reel make it a very versatile weapon no matter if you are chasing trophy blue cat, flathead, carp or alligator gar... It's sweet... The Penn® Fierce® II 8000 Live Liner Reel is designed to give live bait anglers the ability to present their baits and work the bite effectively. The lever allows line to freespool with the bail closed, using as much or as little tension as you wish—great for pushing baits beyond casting range or letting the fish take the bait, on your terms, prior to the hookset. Of course, the Fierce II Live Liner offers dependability and unparalleled power at an affordable price. With its lightweight all-aluminum Full Metal Body and sideplates, bulletproof stainless steel main shaft, thick aluminum bail wire, and braid-ready spool pre-marked for line capacity, this powerhouse Penn reel was solidly engineered for performance in all conditions. Expect smooth retrieves thanks to its Techno-Balanced™ graphite rotor and 5.3:1 44 inches per turn system with shielded stainless steel ball bearings and Instant Anti-Reverse. And its reliable, field-proven oiled-felt drag system has plenty of muscle to tame even the hardest charging fish. * Live Liner system for smooth presentation of live baits * Full Metal (aluminum ) Body and sideplates * Techno-Balanced graphite rotor * Heavy-duty aluminum bail wire * 5.3:1 44 inches per turn bearing system with Instant Anti-Reverse * Shielded stainless steel ball bearings * Superline spool with line capacity rings * Ultra-reliable oiled felt drag system

I picked up one of those Penn combos in a pawn shop before I went to Venice last year. It had no problem manhandling the 5'+ sharks we were catching.

I bought another Optix. It has been pretty good until it broke. I should have spent the extra cash on the Penn Fierce.
Had to split the ministry money between a new reel, and a new castnet. I sure love the Big Mouth Castnets.
