I've had a hard transition moving from a life of saltwater fishing to learning to lake fish. I moved to central Texas 2 years ago and I either hammer the cats or I skunk. I just don't have this lake thing quite figured out. I decided to take a trip with Spud(cattin-around adventures) to try and learn a few things. I definitely got schooled! It's incredible to catch a 45# cat in water barely deep enough to cover the fish. It's quite the show! Thanks Spud for the great day on the water! I caught the big fish of the day@ 45#. Adrian caught a 26#. We tossed numerous slot fish back that were over 30" and we kept 11 that ranged from 2-7#. All in all a great day of catching! All the new gear he is using was great! Whisker seeker rods, ABU reels, and awesome monster rod holders. Great combo's! Thanks again Spud!

Thanks for looking! Curtis

Great to hear! What Lake were you on? One thing that might help is my Catfish Calendar. I think the thread is over on page 5 at the moment. It is geared for YellowCats, BlueCats & Gator Gars. It works whether you are running lines or Rod-n-Reeling. Even some bass fisherman (who also like catching Yellows) are coming over to the Catfish section to retrieve it. A few testimonies are upfront on the 2016 thread (link is in the 2017 thread) or go to page 6. Also see Dave's post "Meat Hall" on p.10 as to Blues, Dead Red, chicken breast, juglines & the calendar; or go to <http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/11933503/Meat_Haul#Post11933503>

Thanks for the replies guys! I've lurked here awhile and have read the catfish calendar Lynn. You've really worked diligently to compile all that info. Appreciate the effort! Interestingly enough, Spud and I talked about the different animals we've found in catfish when cleaning them. I found a huge rat in a bluecat awhile back. Spud said he found a squirrel in one recently. When I cleaned a 29" we kept I found what I believe to be a belly full of duck bones. Whatever it was it was quite large for a fish this size. Have a look. Any ideas other than duck? Maybe young nutria?

Otter? We have too many on Conroe. I hope big cats eat them.

Strange story: When Butch was dropping me off at my house via boat after a catfish haul one morning last year, I quickly shouted to Butch, " look, an otter has a young feral kitten in it's mouth" as it scampered to the water from my backyard. Payback? I hope so.

Hey thank you Curtis, it was a good time on the water even if you are an old salty LOL. We had good time and man Adrian and his south African knots kept me busy. I won't disclose where are how we caught these due to the fact there is a large tournament coming up next Saturday though smile

Once, Felix told me he had seen a dead calf on the edge of the Brazos River & maggots were in the carcass. He caught some small Blues on nearby lines. He cut them open to see what they had been eating. Maggots. He almost threw the rest of the Blues back. But didn't.

I have heard Big Yellas will "spring" for their food, especially on the rivers. As a small animal comes near the water & sips some water, the Yella will spring up from the water & grab the animal. And swallow it as it eases back down. And rabbits are a prime source.
