I recently bought a new Lowrance elite 5 hdi and can't figure out how to fine tune it. It shows structure pretty well but shows small gamefish or baitfish everywhere. I was at Texoma yesterday and driving along and saw all these what I would say are baitfish, I stopped threw the cast net several times and not one shad. All of the structure that I mark shows all of the same fish in it but nothing. Long story short I believe what I'm seeing is just some sort of distortion but I can't get it to go away. I would have posted pics of it but not sure how. Thanks in advance for any help.

Any recommendations on who is the best to ride along and teach me about my particular unit? Will the folks that do this come to me or will I need to travel to their home lake? I'm assuming prices are consistent with guide prices?

On that unit you probably need to adjust your sensitivity. I had elite 5 HDi and elite 5 chirp. Now I have elite 7s. Leave it in auto sensitivity but in the adjust section lower the auto sensitivity to -3. I also turn off noise rejection and surface clarity. On the down scan I like 455khz but that is a personal preference. See if that helps. This is all off the top of my head. Shoot me a PM if you have other questions.
And Jesus said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men. Mark 1:17 (NASB)

Set everything to Auto. Most people like to change the settings due to the clarity of the water but the machine is designed to get the best performance with the auto setting across the board. Until you read and totally understand your unit or take classes for it, I would suggest setting to AUTO. Good luck. Also view YouTube and see if there is anything you can take from it.

I did meet and elderly salesman at BPS Garland electronics counter couple of years ago that seemed pretty sharp, at that time he was fish Texoma. I never got his name, don't know if he still works there. I'm sure someone else on here knows him. Back to Slade, it will be worth your time to go to him, he can improve out of the box electronics.

Doug Yates is a great guy! Helped me a lot when purchasing a couple of Helix 10's.

Just curious to whether or not this is a service you would provide a tip for as you would with a fishing guide? Or since you would essentially be using your own boat/fuel/equipment/etc there is no tip required? If a tip is required what would be appropriate?
