As another transplanted Californian, I'm missing my 1.5 day trips. I'm interested in next year, when I have the time and funding to head offshore again.
The heaviest gear I have is a Sealine 40/Calstar 670 (what I would call an ~30-40lb bait outfit) and an 8000 spinning reel/matched rod. Am I in the ballpark for the style of fishing here, or do I need to think about investing in something beefier. I know that's too light for the big YFT.
Alternatively, what's the rental gear situation (does it exist, is it any good, etc...?) on the Scat Cat?

So we had another successful trip. The fishing started out tough but as you can see we figured it out. We still have openings for a trip on the 27th. It will be the dark of the moon trip hope to see some more of you out. Remember the discount is still available just tell the wharf that the captain sent you. Thanks in advance be safe and hope to see you soon. Fishermans wharf 3617495448
And i will add this post from one of the guys on the trip .
The Capt came through again. He worked his [censored] off to get use fish. We hit four rigs. There isn't another Capt in Texas that works like he does to put fish on the deck. Thanks again.

Sir i currently have a saragosa 20000 for my top water and jigging set up and for chunk i have a choice of either my tyrnos 30 my avet 50 with a bent but or my fav. A tiagra 50 all of my rods vary in size anywhere from 50-250 . I am one of the captains of the scat cat. I can speak for all of my crew when i say we dont mind people using our equipment as long as we believe you would treat it as your own. We have it, we want it used.

I think you could do a lot better 30 miles out of Louisiana fishing how far do you have to go to get into tuna from the dock?
