This is the perfect time of the year to get your boat into Blake’s on 287 in Corsicana for anything that you might have been thinking of doing to it rather than waiting until March and April when everyone is trying to get maintenance or repairs done on their boats and Jet Ski.
You might be thanking of additional depth finders or upgrading your trolling motor. It might save you some time on the water this spring by going these little extra things now.

Fishing this time of year is still fun. I'm catching a good box of sand bass when I go out. Hitting the traditional winter spots such as Pelican Island, Sometimes Island, Old 287 road bed, Wind Sock and little spots along the 309 flats. Really any deep water spot you can run upon where it comes up out of the 40ft and 50ft water may be holding fish. I start running up the sides of these places and start looking for the bait than I look for the fish close-by on the very bottom of the lake.
Most fish are caught in 30ft to 35ft of water right on the bottom using the slab and jig rig with a really light touch. I'm catching several of the undersized Hybrid Stripers 14 inches to 15 inches long, so we have to keep an eye on that. I'm looking for 18 inch long hybrids and 10 inch long sand bass.
I'm booking trips now for the spring so now is a real good time to plan your early fishing trip while the best dates are available.
