Here's why you always need to wear a life jacket and have a functioning engine kill switch. These guy's were very lucky to have survived being thrown from their boat at 60 MPH. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AkgjPkCQXc

Every body needs to watch this video. It can happen faster than you think. Always have a Death Grip on the steering wheel, no matter how calm the water is.

This was apparently caused by a steering malfunction at the engine...I always do a quick visual of my engine hydraulics before every launch and started using a non inflatable life jacket again (old style) several years ago when I had one of the newer style that did not totally inflate properly.... I was actually thrown from my bass boat during a tourney at Lake Texoma way back in 1967 and was also lucky to have survived...water temperature was 50 degrees and no extra clothes...to this day, I always carry a large towel and extra clothes in any boat I'm in, especially during colder weather... Things happen fast at 60-70 MPH on the water...and the main thing that saved these two was their functioning engine kill switch...be sure and use yours and if you do not have one, they are easy and cheap to install...A "fully functioning engine kill switch and proper sized life jacket are an absolute necessity any time you are on the water...

Great example of the necessity of wearing life vest and attaching the kill switch. I like Pitch was thrown from a boat 11/22/2016 and my H.I.T. life vest did not inflate at all. Old school vest for me from now on as well as dry clothes. Water temp was 58 degrees and needless to say a cold ride back to the ramp. I also recommend a boarding ladder for those of us a little long in tooth. Had I not had a fishing buddy with me there was no way I could have gotten back on board as I had ruptured my right bicep tendon. Utilize all the safety features available as this can happen PDQ to anyone.

I threw myself and a buddy off my flats boat once, turning sharp in rough water, kill switch worked, we were only going 20-25 though, it still makes me sick to think of what COULD have happened

Just goes to show you that things can turn bad quickly while on the water! Glad no one was hurt! Stay safe out there.

Here's an easy way to get back on board if by yourself, or even with someone else: Use the power trim on your big motor to lift you up and out of the water. With motor all the way up you can easily step onto the transom. I have done this many times after taking a quick dip to cool down in warm weather and once at Lake Cooper in late November...very cold water and by myself...I hit an underwater BOIS 'D ARC limb while cruising on 36 volt high. Anyway, I used the power trim to get back on board and was very grateful for all those dry clothes I had been carrying around for years....

Guess this makes the 5th time for this thread. Guess some folks missed it the other times. Was caused by hydraulic steering malfunction.
