Do you think that the lock and dam between Centerville and Crocket will be fishable this year from the bank. I know that the flooding last year washed away some of the banks and wasn't for sure to make the trip or not.

I drove by there today on the way to Centerville.
I stopped in & talked to a couple guys & they said it's very very slow.
There were only about 6-7 people fishing.
I watched them for awhile & only a few were catching anything & what they caught were thrown back.
Maybe in a month the whites will show up in some numbers.
Water looked OK though.

On a side note don't expect the owners to be open much at the store.
They say they're cutting grass & weeds & cleaning up the place but, it's still the same as it's always been.
Lots of trash, which really isn't the owners fault as some of the hillbilly trash folks don't know what it means to carry out their trash.

Almost forgot but, the banks are very steep.
Be careful if you go.

According to USGS the river has already risen 1-1/2 feet in just 8 hours.
Water flow is at about 3500cfps.
Normal is about 1100cfps

There's 3 more days of hard rain coming & that will most likely go to 8000+ cfps with a gage height of 12+ feet.
That means it would be 3-4 weeks before it levels off to normal level of 8-8.5 feet.
That could be enough to kill the whitebass run at the L&D.

Amen to that.
Too much can go wrong at the wrong time.

On a side note it looks like the flow has leveled off at 4000cfps with a gage height of about 10ft.
If it doesn't get any worse & it starts to retreat back to normal we might be spared.

The worse thing we might have to deal with is the cold temps that's coming for the next 2-3 weeks.
Just have to wait & see what happens.

Absolutely, I have 3 days off and no idea where to go with all this rain.

This will be known as the 1rst flood of 2017 at the L&D

Discharge is almost 18000cfps
Gage height is approx. 22.5 feet

As of 1-19-17 11:55pm

Good thing I have another place to go that's not affected by so much rising water.
Just a longer drive & no 300' mountain to climb.

If that place was the only place in Texas to catch fish I would go out of state.

Getting down to the water is a choir in itself.
Getting back up is a double choir especially with fish.

I went by the place awhile ago.

I saw this post on another forum.
Pay very serious attention to the bold statement.
I would say that getting back up the 300' hill would be best left to athletic people in great shape.
Some of the younger guys were having a hard time getting up that long 300' hill with only a few fish.
That hill is at a 45 degree incline if not worse.

As far as the LnD is concern, if you are not going to the sand bars about 1/3 mile down, being next to the lock is the best place. For the more adventurous anglers, the east is the best place to hit. You can climb on top of the dam and have a clear look at the rapid water and both sides of the bank. The fishes are bigger on the east bank, my honest opinion. But you run into more hazards. So be patient.

This guy is a total idiot & trying to get someone hurt.
He has proven by his statement that he hasn't been there in 3 years.
He lives in Houston & obviously don't have a clue about what the place looks like now.
1rst off, the stairs he refers to is only about 20' long.
You'll still have more than 250 feet of dirt, mud or sand to tread.
Wear your boots or waders cause you'll need them.

2nd, he mentions stairs next to the trolly but, there's just 1 problem with that.
There's never been stairs next to the trolly.
It's all bare ground, dry or mud depending on the weather that day.

If you go there be very careful & tell someone where you're going in case something happens.
It's a very different place after the floods.

I'll add a teaser.
On the south side of the 7 bridge there's now a huge tall sandbar in the middle of the river.

The east side should be a good spot as the ground is more level south of the bridge.
Be safe.
