looking at a boat with a 2003 Mercury 200 EFI. I currently have a 91 Yamaha ProV 150 that I am very comfortable with and that has never let me down. Not too sure if I want to let my Yamaha go for a motor I have never had any dealings with. Looked up reviews that have been all over the place. Anyone with any personal information??

If it's the 3.0 litre I've had mine for a couple years and it's been awesome.

TLW is spot.on---Unless you can have a mechanic check it out fully, you never really know what your getting into. Someone can tell you a motor has 250 hour on it but in fact could have 500 and on it's last leg. Newer efi motor can be checked for many things including hours but again only by a true mechanic who has the proper tools and equipment to do so.

My experience tells me you will be happy with the Merc because of the easy start, better performance, using less oil and it`s better fuel consumption than the carbed ProV.

Go for the Merc. I switched to Mercury years ago. Messed up & bought another brand. Less than a year I hung a Merc back on. Availability of Merc mechanics & parts network seems better overall. Of course theres bad & good of all brands. Chevy/Ford/Dodge discussion. I've just had better luck with Mercury.

Had a 97 200 efi. Loved it. Previous owner had the fuel pump replaced, but I am assuming it was due to him running bad gas since the boat wouldn't start when I bought it. Drained the old gas put in new gas and she fired right up. Never had a lick of trouble with it for the next five years.
