I haven't been to Gibbons since late November and it was a very slow trip. I'm itching to get on the water tomorrow and Gibbons is the closest lake to me. Anyone have any luck on Gibbons lately? I only have a half day to play so I'm trying to decide do I take the short trip to Gibbons or invest my little bit of time into a longer drive to Somerville or Bastrop. Thanks.

I was out there Friday afternoon. To say it was slow would be a lie, it was nonexistent. I got skunked and the few people I talked to didn't go well either. I didn't fish at or very near the discharge. I went around the mainlake and the mouths of the two arms. Temp was 58-65. There was no grass.

I like this spot; so you might want to give it a try. This is near the Bridge. It shows a hump at 8 ft. on top. On the right is a Depression with a great contour around it. Bass should be hanging right on the lip of this depression; so make your contour approach around the deeper depression with a Crig.. The contour is marked is RED Spray. Keep your boat outside this contour as you fish and cast to the RED X's. Man up front cast to the X's while the man in the back drags a Crig on contour. There should be lots of rock along the bridge bank for a Football Jig. Good Luck.

Thanks pike for the report and thanks Mr Harper for the tip.
I skipped Gibbons and fished Somerville and boated ten Saturday morning. Sounds like I made the right decision.

I fished Gibbons this last Saturday and didn't do too hot...caught one on a spinner and one on a T-Rig, lost one each on those baits and one more on a jig. All fish caught right on/near stumps in 2-5' water. Timber has always been the only consistent producer for me there...

Did the grass ever come back at Gibbons? Seems like it was exterminated 15 yrs ago! First time I saw the lake it was a gem, clear water bass swimming across the boat ramp etc.
