I backfill baitcasters. I do not back fill my 1 and only spinning combo.
I use a blood knot.

Yes I backfill. both spinning and baitcasters. don't see the need to put on say 120 yards of braid(for ex) instead of just 50-60 yds and change it out as needed. I can't remember what the knot is called. I double 1 line and then feed the other line thru and wrap 6-7xs and then pass back thru and snug it down.

I use a blood knot. if you don't back fill the spinning reel do you have holes in the spool to tie through? Just wondering if no holes to tie through the what keeps the line from spinning on the spool?

You can wrap electrical tape around the spool first and that will keep the line from spinning on the spool.

I use a braid backer on all my baitcasters, and use an Alberto knot to tie to mainline.

Use your old braid and use the Alberto knot. I use to use the blood knot but since my son showed me the Alberto knot I have been using it

Just wondering if no holes to tie through the what keeps the line from spinning on the spool? Those "holes" are not there to tie line to. They are there to lighten the spool. Haha. Tie the line around the spool, even one with holes in it, with a simple overhand knot. On the tag end of the overhand knot, tie a small single knot. Pull the main line to cinch the overhand knot until the tag end knot slips down to the main overhand knot. It will be plenty tight enough NOT to slip if done correctly. Last step is to clip off the excess line tag from the back side of the knot and spool up the reel with line. Simple.

When y'all are using braid as a backer, do you tie the braid straight to the spool?

I've always tied to the holes but have one Quantum reel that doesn't have them. I have had trouble with that reel slipping. Thanks for the info.
