We've had a chihuahua for about 3 years and has been a great dog.

We bought some acreage so I wanna get a big dog too.

I'm thinking Boxer or German Shepherd.

It will stay inside prob 50-75 percent of the time.

I'd like a dog that just might bite someone or at least make them think that. Our kids are at the age they stay home by themselves now. So a protection type mentality

What's a better dog?

It's really gonna be one of them 2, just curious what y'all think

My sister has one and lives just down the road

It's been jumped a few times by either coyotes and wild dogs. Had its tail ripped off a few months ago.

I think out here it's gonna have to be kinda a dog that can kill a coyote if needed

Great Pyrenees is a good option. That's what they do. And they don't mind chilling out indoors. Boxer? I've never met one that had an agreesive bone in it's body. Just goofy and loving.

We have a Pyrenees and she is an excellent family dog. Smart but not necessarily the most obedient. They have minds of their own so maybe limited in just how much you can train them. She has a large bark and can be intimidating to strangers but I wouldn't necessarily see her as a dog quick to bite anyone like maybe a Shepard or Lab.
They are protectors by nature so will almost always get along well with other family pets. Twice while walking her, we have encountered coyotes and she seems to have some kind of inbred hate for them. She did not hesitate to go after them.
They do like to roam when outdoors so a good fence would be necessary. About twice per year, she sheds- a lot. We get her groomed every couple of months but not too short as to not damage the undercoat fur. She stays pretty clean- her coat tends to be oily to resist water.
She also tends to dig a "nest" when outside in the day. Shes seems to be very nocturnal as she desires to be walked or outside after dark.
Hope this helps with the personality profile.
