The HDS-9 has both NMEA-2000 and NMEA-0183. Download the Installation manual off of the Lowrance web site for connection and setup information. Below is a small passage from the manual.

NMEA 0183 device connection
The HDS Gen3 display has an NMEA 0183 serial port, providing
both an input and an output. The port uses the NMEA 0183 (serial
balanced) standard, and can be configured in the software for
different baud rates up to 38,400 baud. The NMEA 0183 cable shares
the same plug as the power cable.

It will not share existing waypoints but it will share waypoints made from this point on.

Both units need to have "send / receive waypoints" turned on in the networking menu I believe.

I have an HDS 7 and the cable was recently severed. I had it reconnected, but it appears that I have lost the ability to see structure like I used to. I can't see it on my sonar or my down imaging. I imagine that the settings may have possibly changed. Any idea what may have caused this and how I would go about fixing it? Sorry that I can't be more descriptive. I'm pretty new to the electronics game.
Maybe there are general settings that the unit should be set at that could solve the problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Just got a new boat with hds 9 touch gen 3. When the unit is off when I start it up or have a lot of glare there a definite pattern on the screen. Don't notice it to much when there is not a lot of glare. Just seems like this is something I shouldn't have to be dealing with in new boat.
Anybody seen this before?

That's the touch grid system and you have to be careful not to scratch it with anything, because it will scrape off. So, you're saying it's pretty visible in bright sunlight?

I'm not going to recognize your new screen name. smile

Hey Mike. When there are images on the screen i.e. Maps sonar side scan. Can't see it. Just when the screen is black or even off it is visible. The unit in the front doesn't do it. Just never seen this. Also can't imagine being able to scratch it off. You joking about that?

A Lowrance prostaffer on BBC said it's gold conductors that transmit the pressing process, he's the one that said to be careful about scraping them off. I don't see how, but with the cost of the gen 3 I'd be cautious just in case. Gonna shoot you a PM for a quick question. cheers

Are the Lowrance HDS7 and the C.H.I.R.P. finders compatible?

Anybody have some recommended settings for the side scan? It seems like I should get s bit more of a clearer picture of what is fish and what isn't.

They have CHIRP 9 at a really good price but would hate to buy it and find out it's not going to work with my HDS7 & side scan.

If it's an elite9, then it won't work with your Hds.
