Last year this time they were reporting good fishing. Might make a trip early next week.

If the river is right, there may not be a better place to catch white bass. I have caught them as early as New Year's day.

I'm not sure where his has been going, but Seth from Lake Fork cat and crappie has been blowing my phone up with pics from all the sandies he has been catching on the sabine. You might want to contact him and maybe he can tell you more. I've never fished the Sabine.

We drove up today to River Ridge and as I own a pontoon boat which would be a difficult launch we fished from the sand bar. Caught 5 white bass. No other boats at the ramp so I guess this is a good indication that the run is not on.

As I have about 50 pounds of Sam Rayburn catfish in the freezer I don't really need an ice chest full of white bass fillets. I did cook a real nice dinner for the wife though with part of todays catch

Those look like great white bass fillets.

I launched from River Ridge yesterday (nobody else did) and fished downriver from there from about 9 am until 3pm. Caught about a dozen good males, and had many more short strikes. It was hunt and peck for the most part, maybe two or three fish in any particular spot, mostly one at a time. I saw about 4 other boats on the water fishing, and one group of duck hunters.

The river is way down right now (just over 8' on the Beckville gauge yesterday), navigating is like idling through a minefield of laydowns and stumps. I think a little more water/current might have helped concentrate the fish a little better. Not a bad day, and an OK scouting trip to remind me of the hazards when the river is so low. I'm torn on whether or not to be praying for rain before our big trip in late Feb, because so often it doesn't stop once the rain starts falling. One thing is for sure, it will only get better.
