Any tips on Lake Raven would be appreciated. Trying it out this weekend. I've only fished Conroe so I'm excited to see what Lake Raven has to offer. Hopefully more fish!

Check out my YouTube channel. I fish lake raven about twice a week. Definitely nice fish to be caught. Grab yourself a chrome rat-l-trap with a blue head and burn the banks. The dam will usually produce a few fish but the lake is so small that you should take a coupe different moving baits and burn the banks till you find where they are located

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time. They have lowered the lake so much to repair the dam that I don't know if it's worth trying right now. There is no vegetation of any sort. The bottom is a flat mess of black gunk.

The OWR people definitely picked some challenging lakes to manage/haven't made things easy on themselves.

Totally disagree. Like I said I fish it every week. The lake is not low, it has filled back up since they fixed the dam. The vegetation is gone which does make it a muddy mess but that just means the bass hang on the banks and are easy to catch. I could drive 20 more minutes and go to Conroe but I chose raven most of them time.

I just have my doubts since I just called the park and they told me it would be kept low until the dam was fixed; sometime in February. I'll know when I see the lake in person. Thanks!

Raven can be tuff like Conroe. But it does have some pigs in it. I enjoyed the video Garett. I made a video about a year ago on raven that's on youtube also. Seems like the are liking that rattle trap. Here is my video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zn16dmXITA

I called the office and they said the lake was not "low" but they were still working on the dam. The last time I was there the lake was extremely low. I personally do not know how they bring water back into Lake Raven.
Somebody please go fishing there and give us a report!

I fish there weekly so I can give the best report I know how. Water is about 62 degrees. Lake was flooded on Wednesday after the rain. There is one point on the lake that always gets some good wind and holds fish. Lots of bass holding on structure in the middle of the lake, however figuring out how to get them to bite can be a challenge. I've had the best luck with squarebills and lipless cranks just burning the banks. Lots of current flowing over the dam and some good fish can be found there too. Feel free to ask me other questions Here is a picture of a bass that choked my 6th sense squarebill on Wednesday

I've fished Raven steady for over 10 years now. Although I occasionally catch them in deeper water (10-15 feet), the "Florida strains" that are predominant in that lake likes the shallow areas best. And, as mentioned, there are some beasts that swim in that lake. Raven is one of four TPWD "Operation World Record" lakes. They have placed SAL fry in there annually for some time now. I believe that a SAL came out of there a couple of years ago...and I've been told that a 15+ was placed in there in 2012 (the SAL angler didn't want the fish back).
I was there in late Dec 2016, and the water level was back up to full pool. The water was stained pretty good with the rains that brought it back up, but the fish still bit. This time of year...you might want to try an A-rig, jerkbait, or t-rig/c-rig senkos. Lipless and squarebills will get 'em going if they are aggressive.
About 4 years ago, the TPWD came out with a bass study on Texas Lakes. The study included grading lakes for numbers, quality, and lunkers. Raven was rated as #3 in the state based on a consolidation of all three categories. Good little lake where you can score over 20 pounds easy with the right conditions. Average fish will be around 3+...with 5's being easy to catch...and an 8+ not out of the norm.

Cool thanks for the info Ron Gunter, I remember reading about Raven being rated #3 3 or 4 years ago. Ive caught a few 7 and 6's out of there but havnt managed a double digit there yet. I know that about 5 or 6 years ago the fishing was a lot better, Or should I say they was easier to catch. Now you gotta work for them, like said above, they are there.

Lake Raven muddy? It's been a while since I fished it, but at the time it was pretty clear and had lots of vegetation around the lake. Is that not the case anymore?
