Is Sulfodene still good for this? Overnight, Mutely knawed his self raw on a back hind quarter. Hair is gone about the size of a tennis ball and the area is a bright red. I hit it with some Cortizone cream and later with Neosporin. He must like it cause he keeps licking it off. The redness seems to have gone away some and the licking has diminished a tad. Might have to do the cone of shame on him, if he doesn't stop licking his salves. hammer

This just popped up out of no where. No fleas, no change of food etc...kinda stumped how this happened so quickly.

#1 they need a bath in a hot spot shampoo. Burt's Bees puts out some really good stuff for it.

Burt's bees also makes a spray that works for it really well. But start with a really good bath. Huyana had one once that just popped up overnight. Spread to Vaquita and about drove us nuts.

Benadryl. I believe it's ne pill for every ten pounds your dog weighs. That's what my vet told us. It might be an outdoor allergy that popped up this week or the food could cause an allergic reaction even after you've been feeding it for a while. I'd check with my vet, too, just to be safe. Especially if it persists.

My parents yorkie has been fighting this all year. Thought it was hotspot at first, then fleas, then it was allergies, etc. She's been getting some hair loss but I personally think it's just bad allergies this year.

Buy some teatree oil and apply it 2-3 times a day. Works on the chihuahuas

I hate to give him Benadryl, but might as a last resort. The warden just showed up with some Sulfodeye spray, gonna try that
and see what happens. The only thing we know he is allergic to is corn (product in dog food), and have eliminated that long ago.

Thanks for the notes!

Our small dogs have had hot spots 2 or 3 times. Each time I would take them to the vet and he would shave the area around the spot with a hair trimmer. And we were given EnteDerm to apply twice a day.

So, the last time a hot spot appeared, I took a hair trimmer and shaved around the area so it could get plenty of air and applied the EnteDerm. Within 3 or so days it had healed over and after about a week it was gone.

The cone of shame has been involved on one occasion.

I use Goldbond foot powder on my dogs. Worked like a charm for me. I even found it in a spray so it was much easier to apply.

I'm curious about your aversion to Benadryl. My vet said it was one of the safest drugs for dogs and also one of the most effective.

I've always used Benadryl. Seems to work really well.

Years ago, while with 77th SFG, I had a boxer, we jumped into the jungle in Panama (Yahh, dog too, he loved jumping) while there he got a terrible hot spot, seemed it lasted for months, the Military vet hated me.,
