I have fished Granger for about 10 years with plenty of freezer bags and fun . Upriver
,Coves roadbeds etc.i just can't figure out the winter bite! Anyone in my shoes ? I have talked
To more experienced anglers and guides and they pretty much winterize the boat or fish other
Lakes.. This is one of the top lakes for crappie in Central Texas . What's the deal ? They can't
Go on hunger strike for 2.5 months .. I have since fished Buchanan several times with good trips just scratching my head on lake Granger ..

A half truth is usually less than half of that !

Haven't tried Granger in the winter but Kevin says it's a tough lake during the winter months. If I was going to try Granger, it would be by the dam in 30-35 FOW if it's that deep. Don't necessarily have to be seeing balls of shad for crappie to be there. Nor does there have to be any brush. They may be in open water with no brush anywhere close. Maybe close to some drop offs or ledges. This is when spider rigging and slow trolling becomes very effective.

Try the warmer water in the San G and Willis Creek. Not speaking with recent experience, going by last years results.

That may be the biggest crappie I have seen come out of the Ole San Gabe! Great catch!

That's one very nice crappie Heath. Fished Granger for years and have caught thousands of crappie, but nothing close to that.
My best on that lake is 2.08.

Granger fishing in winter is tough, especially during the day and on main lake.

Spider rigging like Ken talked about is your best bet, or night fishing on the San Gabriel or Willis creek will get ya bit.

Once again, congrats Heath on your monster catch! thumb clap

I'm always in a good mood when I'm fishing.

The first several years Granger was open the area leading into the river where all those big trees where, and up into the river looked like a small town at night with all those lanterns fired up. Lots of fish caught, but was no size or bag limit on crappie or whites.
