I have a number of 13 Fishing Concept reels (A's & C's). Recently bought my wife a Concept A and noticed that the holes in the spool aren't ground very smoothly. If you thread your line through the holes & tie off while spooling, might want to double check how well it holds (especially if using FC). The one I recently purchased would cut the line with very little tension applied. No problem to just wrap the spool and tie off, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this on the newer Concept A's.

I have never seen this on the few that I have. I pass line through spool when putting line on. Thanks for the heads up though! Will be putting new line on all mine this week and will pay close attention to that now.

My son and I had nothing but trouble with our 13 Fishing reels. We had A's through the KP. Same issue with all of the A's, C's and E's and eventually returned all of them except the KP which has been fine. Line guide would start sticking then the reel would lock up. Hopefully they fixed that issue.

Mmmmm. You're not supposed to run the line though the spool when filling it. You are supposed to tie a simple overhand knot with a tag end knot. Pull the line tight to the tag end and then clip the excess off. This will cinch down the line plenty tight enough to prevent slip and prevent the line cutting that you experience when tied on incorrectly.
On some very light spools, be careful not to cinch down the line too tightly as it can actually warp the spool.

Just to clarify, I didn't run my line through the holes in the spool. I had other issues but I can definitely see running the line through the spool being an issue! I will add we had the original models which had the issue, I don't think the newer ones did.

I love mine. Granted, I don't fish near as much as most of you guys but I pick my 13 up more than my Lew's Speed Spool. Maybe I am missing something on the Lew's but I have never been too good at flipping or pitching until I got a 13.

Not going to run my line through the spool now. Never thought about it before but I can definitely see how pressure could warp some spools.

I'm really a Lews guy and I love the Tournament MBs. I picked up the Concept A as a cranking reel and perhaps that part of the issue, I don't know or it's just me lol. Anyways, something with a 5 maybe a 6 gear ratio of equivalent value (170.00) would get my attention. It's been used some and I'm sure has some boat rash but is in really good shape. I'd say 7 to 8 out of 10.

I love mine too, don't get me wrong. I have a number of Lew's Tournament series as well and overall, like the 13's more (just my opinion, please forgive me). Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

So here are some pic's I took of it. It's in really great shape. I would really like a Lew's Tournament MB or another high end Lew's in a 5 gear ratio or maybe a 6.

Way to go guys!Excellent job of hijacking someone else's post.To the O.P the holes drilled in the spool are for decreased spool weight. They were never designed for tying spool knots. The arbor knot is the correct way to attach line to a spool.
