If your just fishing for whites it is too heavy. I fish Belton for whites and hybrids with 12 lb Stren. It works great for me. If your fishing a lake with really big stripers you would a stronger test such as the 25 lb.

Just be advised, the jigs will straighten out in strikes by multiple big whites or hybrids. I was fishing with Jamoke on Belton on January 1, 2017 and he had on two fish and landed neither of them. He was using whale rope and an Alabama rig. The hybrids went in different directions and straightened the hooks. If you look at the 96# wire of the Alabama rig, the 25# Big Game doesn't matter. If you get hung up with your 14$ rig, it is nice to straighten hooks and get something back. On small whites it is way overkill. On multiple 8# hybrids it may be just the ticket. With the jigs in the picture, they are he weak link.

I use 60 or 100 lb braid depending on the size and weight of the umbrella rig and amount of trees in the lake. I used to use 30 lb big game till I broke off 2 rigs in treetops.

I'm a tight a&&. Made me sick when I lost 2 $45. rigs at the same time. With braid I have a better chance of recovering most of the rig if not all of it. My I've landed 4- 6 lb stripers on one rig with this setup

Ahh. Different umbrella rigs. You're right on the overkill. I target hybrid and striper mostly using 24" umbrella rigs. I switched to nekid tackle rigs because I lost some nice fish when the arms broke off those. 15 lb is plenty big enough for those rigs.

I use those big rigs also, But (KNOCK ON WOOD) I have not broken one of these ......... "yet" The big rigs get 50 lb braid .......

Don't go to pk by yourself with wind with the big ones. I regret it.

I will admit that I have had the same Alabama Rig on for at least 6 months, and that I have caught 100's of fish on the same rig. The repeated hook ups and straightening the hooks has weakened the hooks somewhat. Since we don't keep many fish, I have been too cheap to buy a new rig. I don't think that 12-15lb line is excessive!!! Hope you are having fun on TWOK. Tried something new yesterday, bought a sabiki rig with small chart flies and cut it in half. Put a weight on the bottom, top to a double barrel swivel, attached to whale rope (12 lb big game) caught white bass 2 at a time on Belton!! Tried dead sticking, still not working.
